Brandon and Sebastian's understanding of Lillian's illness was limited to what they had seen—a frail, haggard woman who looked utterly exhausted.
However, in the past two days, Lillian had improved significantly. She looked as if nothing had ever been wrong.
That afternoon, after some light makeup and styling, she changed her clothes and looked as radiant and beautiful as ever.
There was no trace of her illness.
Looking at the healthy glow on her face in the mirror, she knew it was partly due to Dr. Smith's medicine and partly the magic of makeup.
Regardless, she looked healthier in the mirror.
Lillian was in a good mood. She loved seeing herself look so well.
She was also looking forward to a full recovery.
For now, she looked like someone who was completely fine.
When Ethan came to drop something off, he saw Lillian all dressed up and clapped his hands. “Congratulations on your recovery, Ms. Mercer. You look so much better.”
Lillian smiled. “I do, don't I? How has your young master been lately?”
“He's doing well, too. He should be back in a few days after he wraps things up.”
Today, Ethan had heard his young master speak. His voice was raspy, but at least he could talk again.
That was a good sign.
Good news on both sides.
“That's wonderful. By the way, has Victor arrived yet?”
Ethan replied, “A driver has already been sent to pick him up. The suit you requested has also been delivered to him.”
Victor's wardrobe consisted of nothing but simple plaid shirts, which were completely unsuitable for formal occasions.
So, whenever there was a formal event, Lillian had to arrange a suit for him.
Everyone was envious of his work perks.
However, whenever Victor was dressed up nicely, he would take pictures and show them off on online forums.
Many people were deeply jealous of the benefits that came with working with Li.
But what people were even more curious about was the project Victor and Li were working on.
With two aces like them teaming up, the project was bound to be incredible.
So far, however, there had been no news.
The complete silence only made everyone more curious.
What kind of project could it be?
Lillian went downstairs to wait for the driver to return and pick her up.
At the venue for the press conference, Bella was bustling about, personally checking every detail.
Professor Avery had arrived early with the official representatives. After Bella personally greeted them, she felt the weight of the evening’s conference even more.
Sebastian and Professor Avery sat together in the lounge.
“I wonder if Lillian will come today,” Avery said, his eyes glancing almost unconsciously toward Sebastian.
It was clearly a pointed comment.
Sebastian couldn’t figure out why Professor Avery seemed so concerned with Lillian’s every move since returning to the country.
It was all very odd.
After hanging up, Professor Avery looked at Lillian’s number in his contacts, about to dial it.
Just then, Sebastian walked over to him.
“Professor Avery, you seem very concerned about Lillian…”
Professor Avery didn't try to hide it. “I am very concerned about her. That child… she makes you worry.”
As he said this, there was a clear look of disapproval in his eyes directed at Sebastian.
He hadn't known before. He had just thought Lillian was headstrong, giving up her career to chase after some so-called love.
It was a real pity.
Now he knew that the love Lillian had been chasing was Sebastian. This young man clearly didn't care much for her, and now Professor Avery didn't just feel it was a shame his favorite student had wasted her time; he also thought her taste in men was abysmal.
Of the several students he had introduced her to back then, any one of them would have been more thoughtful and considerate than Sebastian.
Lillian was already very successful. She didn't need to marry into a powerful family, especially since she came from one herself.
She needed a husband who was obedient, understanding, supportive, and cherished her.
A self-centered man like Sebastian was completely unsuitable for Lillian.
He didn't say much more, nor did he spell it out, but the obvious disdain in Professor Avery’s eyes shocked Sebastian.
What was that look of contempt from Professor Avery all about?
He couldn't understand it at all.
He was the CEO of the Blake Group. Professor Avery was being far too dismissive of him.
