Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 283

“Professor Avery, have you known Lillian for a long time?”

Sebastian definitely had a feeling that Professor Avery and Lillian were old acquaintances.

On the day Professor Avery returned to the country, many people had tried to invite him to dinner.

But in the end, Sebastian had run into Lillian coming out of the same private room where Professor Avery was dining.

Looking back now, he realized it made sense. If they hadn't known each other for a long time, why would they have been having dinner together on the very day he returned?

Who was Lillian, anyway?

She didn't have any particular skills or power. It didn't seem possible that Professor Avery would turn down invitations from so many influential business leaders and talented individuals just to have dinner with Lillian.

Once Sebastian considered this, he was certain there was more to it.

He was still speculating when Professor Avery calmly admitted it.

“Yes, we’ve known each other for years. It’s a pity…”

With each mention of “pity,” Professor Avery gave Sebastian a meaningful look.

Those looks were starting to make Sebastian feel uneasy.

What was this all about?

Why did it seem like this “pity” had something to do with him?

He hadn't done anything, so why was Professor Avery going on about it?

“How did you and Lillian meet?” Sebastian asked.

For some reason, a thought suddenly flashed through his mind.

Bella always talked about how difficult it was to become one of Professor Avery’s students.

He was probably worried about her health and didn't want to disturb her rest with a phone call.

A text was less intrusive; she could reply when she saw it.

Professor Avery didn't answer Sebastian's question. Just then, someone else came over to greet him, and the moment passed.

But the question lingered in Sebastian’s mind.

When he connected all the dots related to Professor Avery, he increasingly felt that Lillian’s network was far more extensive than he had imagined.

He had previously assumed that her connections weren't her own. He thought that when the Blake elders had invited her to that dinner with high-level figures, they were deliberately paving the way for her, feeding her resources.

But even that didn't explain this level of personal concern.

There had to be something he didn't know.

Without a second thought, Sebastian excused himself from the crowd, walked to the restroom, pulled out his phone, and called Lillian.
