In the driver's seat sat a young man dressed all in black. He wore a half-face sun mask and sunglasses, completely concealing his features. The dark tan on his exposed forehead suggested he spent a lot of time outdoors.
"Lillian, who is this Debbie to you? Why are you going to the trouble of investigating her?"
Lillian replied, "My former mother-in-law."
The man’s voice jumped. "Oh, so she's *his* mother. The woman who managed to get into old Mr. Blake's bed and secretly had his son.
"Wow, she's quite something. What a set of skills.
"But how did she get into gambling?"
"I have no idea," Lillian said. "I'm just curious, so I figured I'd look into it. The situation with the Mercer and Blake families is complicated right now, and I need to be on guard against anyone trying to use certain people or events to harm me.
"I don't want to hurt anyone, but I won't let anyone hurt me, either."
The man turned back to her. "Lillian, it's one thing to know about this place, but you have to stay far away from this underground casino. It's not a simple operation.
"The web of connections behind it is a tangled mess. This isn't the first time I've investigated it for someone, and it's a murky business. I managed to get Debbie's records from inside.
"She's only been playing for a couple of days, and so far, she's been winning consistently.
"On the surface, the place looks like a regular card room. Even a close friend or family member stopping by would just think it's a place for casual entertainment.
"But inside, it's a different story. Behind a hidden door, it's a completely different world, and the stakes are huge.
"Yesterday alone, Debbie won two million dollars."
"She hasn't woken up yet, but if Mr. Parker wants to see her, I'll personally come and pick him up next time."
Marcus nodded. "You got it. Well, you get back to it, Lillian. Let me know if you need anything else."
"Will do," Lillian said with a nod.
She got out of the car and headed back to her office upstairs. As the elevator ascended, she couldn't help but wonder if Bella had just shot herself in the foot.
Sebastian was adamant that Debbie was never to set foot in Northwyn.
But Bella, in her cleverness, had brought her here anyway. It looked like she was in for a rough time.
