Lillian sighed. "I don't think she'll use them, but give her the keys anyway. She can decide what to do with them."
Emma gave Lillian a thumbs-up. "Ms. Mercer, you're the most humane and caring boss I've ever met."
Lillian smiled. "She's working herself to the bone for me. Would I even be human if I didn't notice?
Besides, if she doesn't eat or rest well and keeps overworking herself, her health will suffer. That would be my loss, wouldn't it?"
Lillian genuinely cherished such talented individuals.
Just as she finished speaking, her phone rang.
A couple of days ago, she had unblocked Brandon's number.
During dinner that night, Brandon had mentioned that the family was in the middle of intense preparations for Martin's birthday party that weekend. It would be inconvenient if they couldn't reach her.
Lillian knew her opportunity was fast approaching, so she could afford to be a little more patient with certain things.
She decided to unblock everyone from the Mercer family.
Sure enough, Brandon had been calling daily. Lillian saw his name, frowned slightly, then composed herself and answered the phone.
After hearing what Brandon had to say, Lillian, who had planned to go back to the office that afternoon, had to scrap her plans.
After hanging up, she said to Emma, "I'm heading home in a bit. I won't be going to the office this afternoon.
You take care of things with Celia Bennett. Pay close attention, and hire two assistants to help her with her work.
Just drop me off at the next intersection. I'll get a ride from there."
It seemed her company's lack of any official announcements meant it was losing a lot of money, so much so that she could no longer afford a Rolls-Royce.
"Lillian, I told you I'd come pick you up. Why did you take a cab back? Don't you have a car to use lately? Why don't you take one from the house?"
Brandon was worried that with relatives around for the next two days, Lillian taking ride-shares back and forth would make them a laughingstock.
"Driving is tiring. I don't feel like driving these days. Taking a car is fine."
Brandon immediately frowned. "No. If you need to go somewhere, your brother and I will drive you."
"Whatever. The party isn't until tomorrow, right? Why call me back so early? Is there anything I can help with? Then again, my health isn't really up to it. Maybe I'll just watch from the side?"
Brandon replied, "The preparations are almost done. Just help us look over things and see if anything is out of place. A little supervision won't take too much out of you."
