Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 52

Sebastian’s mind was almost entirely consumed by his company, leaving little room for personal drama. He was highly capable, but since taking over the Blake family’s enterprise, he had become incredibly busy. He barely had time for his own affairs, let alone enough energy to spare for Lillian.

Bella knew him well, so she didn't hide Lillian's plans from him.

“Lillian asked the family to meet tonight for a talk. Sebastian, why don’t you come home with me?”

“What is she stirring up now?” Sebastian asked, annoyed. “I don’t have time. You can go and keep an eye on things for me. I trust you.”

“Alright, then,” Bella replied.

For the sake of her grandmother and mother, Lillian returned to the Mercer family home once more. Sabrina and Bella were both present. Fresh from the hospital, Sabrina still bore the faint marks of her injury on her head. Lillian didn't spare her a glance.

The entire family was seated on the sofas in the spacious living room, each person occupying a separate section. The spot that had once been hers was now taken by Bella.

Lillian remained standing and got straight to the point. “I want to take Grandma and Mom to live with me. I’m here to let you know.”

Martin’s voice was icy as he delivered a blunt refusal. “No.”

“I will provide them with the best medical care and living environment,” Lillian pressed. “Grandma has been here for two years with no signs of waking up. I want to try a different treatment plan for her.”

Brandon stood up, offering her his seat.

“Lillian, stop being ridiculous. Grandma is in a vegetative state, hanging on by a thread. How can she possibly withstand being moved? Besides, she’s already receiving the best medical care available. What other treatment plan could you possibly find?”

Colin chimed in, “Lillian, Mom’s mental state is very fragile. A sudden change of environment would be difficult for her to adapt to. It would do more harm than good.”

Though both of her brothers disagreed, they at least tried to reason with her patiently. But she knew the real reason for their opposition.

“I’m sure you’ve done everything you can for Grandma’s treatment, but I can find a better plan. Since we all want what’s best for her, why not try something better? Or is it that if I take Grandma and Mom away, you’ll lose your leverage over me? If that's the case...”

Lillian looked at him in disbelief. Was this really her father? He felt more like a stranger with each passing moment.

Sabrina added her own gentle persuasion. “Lillian, life isn’t easy for the family. We all understand that you care for your grandmother and mother, but you should also show some consideration for your father.”

Lillian took a deep, silent breath. This was not the family she once knew. “In that case, this is no longer a discussion. Consider this my official notice. Once my preparations are complete, I will be taking them with me.”

“Lillian, you wouldn’t dare!” Martin roared.

“I’ve already been to prison. What is there to be afraid of? I will take them, even if I have to do it by force,” she declared.

With that, Lillian turned and walked away. As she reached the entrance of the hall, she paused and said over her shoulder, “Besides, what right do you have to keep my mother here when you’ve moved your mistress into her home?”

As she stepped out the door, she heard the sound of something crashing inside. Lillian closed her eyes for a moment. This place was no longer her home. From behind her, the sharp crack of a slap echoed through the air.
