Leilani.
For the first few seconds, nobody spoke. Everyone was in too much shock to comprehend what Gavin had just said to Chalice or believe that he’ll actually ever say that to her.
—Well, that’s besides me, who already knew that he was doing all of this only to get in his mate’s good graces, not that I cared.
Chalice’s face first fell when she heard those words from him, and then it hardened as she glared between Gavin, me and Maya, as if blaming us for her misfortune.
She cried; "But it’s not my fault. I only wanted to say hello and they were being unnecessarily rude!"
"We weren’t. If there was any rude person, it was you!" Maya replied quickly but instantly dropped her head when Caelum turned to glare at her.
"I wasn’t the one who came at you so hot for saying hi. Am I?" Chalice cried and when Maya wouldn’t respond, for obvious reasons, she added; "Why do you both hate me so much?"
I rolled my eyes as soon as I heard that. Even Maya scoffed, muttering about how she was good at faking being pitiful under her breath. When no one was listening, she turned to me with a frown and whispered;
"You both look alike so much.. but you’re prettier. Why can’t you fake being so pitiful as well? Do it as good as she does, and with those eyes of yours, you can’t say, you might even be better."
A small laugh escaped my lips at her words, but Gavin who had been standing so close to us heard her. He turned to furrow his brows at us and truth be told, I was expecting him to yell at me.
To scream at me for allowing a complete stranger to talk down on his precious little sister.
But who was I kidding?
He didn’t.
Not when the ’stranger’ was someone he was literally eye-fucking the entire time.
Not when she was the reason he was putting up this heroic act in the first place.
To my utter dismay, he turned to Chalice and hissed; "I was watching the whole exchange from a few seats away. I saw you approach them. I saw you act spoilt. And while I’ll always stand by you and support you, I can’t stand by and watch you be uncultured to others... so apologize."
Chalice couldn’t believe her ears. She frowned deeply. "Gavin, I didn’t..."
"There are people who also saw how you provoked them into talking to you harshly. Do you want us to call them too?" He snapped, interrupting her, and gosh, I nearly snorted when her face turned the brightest shade of pink I’ve ever seen on a person’s skin.
She shook her head quickly. "No." And because she still had her ’innocent facade’ to keep up with, she begrudgingly bowed her head and whispered; "I’m sorry for approaching you."
Maya nodded but from the stubborn set of her chin, I knew that this was far from over. She muttered; "I’m sorry too for talking to you the way I—."
"Do you know how stupid that sounds?!" Caelum yelled suddenly, interrupting Maya and causing everyone to turn to him. But his burning eyes were on Gavin. "You are making your sister apologize for being friendly?!"
"Caelum!" Zevran growled, but Caleum, obviously in his feelings, wouldn’t have it. He shrugged defensively, coming to wrap his arms around Chalice’s shoulder and pinned me with a glare.
He snarled; "You’re disgusting! And I’ll make you pay for this!"
But I simply scoffed. "You’ve said worse before. Come up with something better."
