I puffed out my cheeks in annoyance as we walked into the quiet cold house, our footsteps echoing down the hallway as we went, and bitch, I was utterly tired. I was drained as fuck and extremely annoyed that Kael and Zevran had let Leilani go even after the lengths I’d gone to today.

They’d even stood up for her right in front of everyone as if desperate to get her to notice them.

I hated that all my plans to ruin her life were failing, and what I hated most was the fact that my mates— fiancé’s— no longer seemed to care about me anymore.

I looked up just then to meet the piercing gazes of Kael and Zevran; and while Kael nodded slightly at me before walking off, Zevran simply turned and left, not saying a word to me.

He didn’t even spare me another glance.

Gosh, that just goes to show how much he hates me!

As I walked away from Caelum, my heart tightened in my chest. My breath felt like it was being forced and tears stung my eyes— because it felt as though he was the only one left who cared about me now.

And I hated it.

"Chalice?" He called out suddenly, forcing me to halt in my steps. I turned around quietly, my eyes tearing up when he whispered; "I’m sorry I couldn’t do anything for you earlier. But I’ll make Leilani pay for hurting you."

Don’t worry, I’ll make her pay myself.

I nodded stiffly and muttered; "You don’t have to..."

"Oh, but I want to. I want you to always be happy and I’m always here to help, regardless of what you need." He drawled.

His words made warmth bloom in my chest but that warmth didn’t last long. I smiled softly at him before bowing slightly. "Thank you." I said, and with that, I went up the stairs and retired to my room.

I had just slipped into my room however, when my phone suddenly buzzed in my purse. I picked it up and looked at the screen, my face instantly falling when I saw that it was a text from Louis.

It read:

"I want you to come over today, this instant even. I need to taste you."

My heart raced as the words replayed in my head over and over again; and I frowned slightly before typing back:

"Lou, it’s late. I can’t come now. Let me just come tomorrow instead!"

"No. I want you now. And if you don’t come, remember that I have Kael’s number."
