Jarek
My heart raced as I paced from one end of the hospital hall to the other, shaking in fear at the thought of Leilani being in pain or going through any form of distress.
I had seen her face before the doctors practically chased me out of her ward. I had seen the panic in her eyes, and noticed how impossible it was for her to move even an inch or breathe.
Her once creamy skin had become so pale, so white and covered in sweat that it made her look like a real time vampire from the movie: Twilight.
But that wasn’t what scared me the most.
What scared me the most was her eyes. Usually purple. Usually warm. But a few minutes ago, they had shone with a strange white light and were so cold, if I didn’t know her better, I would’ve thought she was about to murder half of us present in her ward.
—And I fear that she is strong enough to murder us at this point.
My hands grew clammy from balling them into fists over and over and over again... until...
"Jarek?" My head shot up when I heard someone call my name.
However, I instinctively frowned when I was met with a familiar pair of mischievous eyes that I didn’t want to see right now.
Her mouth fell open as if in awe, and then she stalked close, swaying her hips slowly as she approached me.
As soon as her manicured fingers touched my chin, I stepped back, and I felt my wolf stir in outrage. She probably felt it too because then she took a step back, her wide eyes apologetic as she muttered;
"I’m sorry, Jarek."
"I don’t want to listen to what you have to say, Keisha." I bit out coldly.
My hands balled into fists by my sides— and this was partly because deep down, it was itching to get wrapped around her neck, squeezing tight until her eyes bulged.
She glanced at me wearily then took another step back, her expression careful as she said; "I’m not here to annoy you."
"I don’t care what you’re here for."
"I just wanted to know why you’re at the hospital. Are you ill?"
At her words, I turned to look at her— more like glare at her— and turned away, my frown deep as I whispered;
"It’s none of your business."
"I heard that there is a girl in that ward," she drawled, pointing at the same spot where Leilani’s ward was as she spoke. "I heard that her condition is not so good..." she added and then dropping her voice until it was barely above a whisper, she looked at me and continued; "...and that all the werewolf doctors are on deck, but she doesn’t seem to be feeling any better."
I rolled my eyes. The last thing I wanted right now was to listen to her stupid gossip, especially since the person involved was my Leilani.
I turned away from her to continue pacing around the hall, but then she joined in, her voice small but cold as she advised; "Just so you know, I may know what’s wrong with her."
"I don’t care."
"I know it’s the girl I found in your office the other day... and that ’s probably the reason you do not want to talk to me about it. But Jarek, she is a freak. I don’t know what kind of freak she is but she’s one... and I can feel it in my bones." She added, but still, I made no attempt to listen to her.
And then she stopped. "You can get her some scented candles... drop some chamomile in them and let it burn. It’ll make her body calm... calm enough to stop rejecting treatment, and maybe calm enough that she doesn’t tear down the entire hospital soon."

Typical Keisha character.
