Leilani.
The next couple of days flew by quickly and before I knew it, it was almost Christmas.
The streets were filled with several wonderful decorations and people walking around with genuine smiles on their faces.
I swept my hair away from my face as I marched through the snowy streets, trudging behind Maya who looked as though she was having the time of her life.
Well... I, on the other hand, wasn’t having any damn time of my life as I couldn’t stop thinking about the final court hearing tomorrow.
Tomorrow was supposed to be the day that the case with my family will finally be resolved— or escalated, and I wanted to know, to see the lengths that Mr and Mrs Blackthorne would go to save themselves. I also wanted to know if they would get to release the video that Agnes talked about.
I also wanted to find out why they had intentionally suppressed my wolf for so long and why they were so unbothered even after finding out about everything Chalice did.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I bumped into Maya’s back. I winced, holding my head as I took a step back and frowned.
"Why did you stop?"
"The question should be why were you so distracted?" She snorted, turning around to face me.
My eyes lit up when I noticed the small fancy keychain in her hands, but then, I frowned again when she pushed it into her pocket and snickered; "You’ve been lost in thoughts since we started picking out the decorations for your house. What is the problem?"
"Nothing."
"Don’t give me that, Leilani." She snapped. "It’s not nothing. You know you can always talk to me about anything right?"
"And you know you can talk to me about anything too, right?" I shot back at her, not missing the way she cocked her eyebrows at me before whispering in a small voice.
"Yes."
"So why didn’t you tell me that you’ve been seeing Gavin?" I asked coldly, my voice coming out way harsher than I had intended.
At my words, her eyes widened slightly but then she blinked and looked away, sighing under her breath. "I didn’t want to tell you anything about that because I didn’t know how you’d feel about it."
Her excuse would’ve sounded palpable if I wasn’t already in my feelings. So I snorted and hissed; "Yeah, right."
"You won’t understand Leilani, he’s my mate. I know that that doesn’t mean shit, but the mate bond pulls me to him. It forces me to want to see the good in him, and—"
"You think it doesn’t pull me towards the triplets?"
"—it doesn’t help that he’s been trying to make up for all his wrongdoings."
We both said at the same time and stopped to glare at each other without saying another word. A moment of awkward silence passed between us before she finally walked closer, took my hands into hers and sighed.
Her shoulders hunched over as she looked away from my face and muttered; "I never thought about it that way."
"And maybe you should also realize that I’m more pissed that you decided to hide it from me than the fact that you’re now with him."
Maya turned to me then, her face scrunched up as she hissed; "Hell, no! We’re not together yet. I’ve just been helping him out with a few things."
"A few things like what?" I sassed suspiciously.
Goddess if she mentions me, I’ll kill her!
"Like telling him the kind of gifts you like. Like helping him out by gathering facts that can help with your case, and—"

He had been severely injured when Keisha and her group of thugs attacked my house all those days ago; But now... now he looked different.
