"Caelum?" Kael asked for the nth time in a few minutes, sounding as though he was worried about me.

The frown creasing his eyebrows deepened when I wouldn’t respond to him and without a word, he turned and left, only returning minutes later with a young doctor standing behind him like a mini bodyguard.

But she wasn’t who I wanted to see.

She was nowhere close to the beauty that had brought me back to earth. The beauty who had promised to be here by the time I woke up..

I wanted to speak. To tell them what I needed, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get my swollen tongue to move.

I couldn’t even blink or speak because of the intense frustration I felt... and anger. And despair.

Where the fuck is Leilani?

Why the hell isn’t she here when she’s told me she would?

My eyes snagged on Kael’s and held, and as if noticing my inner turmoil, he took a step closer to the bed and whispered; "Are you okay?"

I shook my head.

"What’s wrong?" He asked, and when I wouldn’t respond instantly, he added; "Can you talk?"

The fuck I can. Goddess, I could. But my throat felt too tight. Too dry. It felt as though it was being dragged across tiled floors. Like it was being scrubbed clean with a metallic sponge.

My body shook slightly and I gulped, and when I felt a presence by the door, I like sip expectantly and asked; "Leilani?"

Kael froze.

The door pulled open and Zevran stepped in. However as soon as I saw him, my face fell even more. I frowned and snorted. "Not her!"

His eyes roved my face as he waited for me to answer; and goddess, I wanted to. I really wanted to, but instead, I closed my eyes and sighed. "No."

"Should I we send for Chalic—" Zevran began to say but before he could finish, I waved my hands Wizy and snapped;

"No!"

It wasn’t until I had said that that I saw the mischievous smiles on their faces and how they both looked away, snorting under their breaths. And I knew then that they had intentionally gotten under my skin... that they didn’t mean to but had said so to see my reaction.

Anger surged through me at the thought and I turned away, my voice gravelly as I seethed; "I do not wish to speak to any of you now."

"And who do you wish to talk to?" Kael asked playfully but from the smile on his face, I already knew that he knows.

I whispered; "Our mate."

And with that, I closed my eyes and turned away from them, whilst wishing to return to my beautiful dreams, but no matter how hard I tried to, I failed.

By the time I finally woke up from my deep sleep, it was already late and the sky had already begun to set in the darkening evening sky.

I sat up slowly, still weak from the exertion my body had been forced into due to the silver in my blood.

Another thing I realized was the fact that I was still very antsy. Still very annoyed... and all of this was because I still haven’t seen Leilani yet.

Did she ever come to see me?

Will she ever forgive me?

Just as these thoughts played around my head, my door creaked open and a familiar scent filled my nostrils. It smelled of blueberry muffins and vanilla cakes... of the morning dew and sugar.

You realize how I cannot seem to find exactly what it smelled like?

That’s exactly how strange it smells but soooo mouthwatering good all the same.
