Zevran.
I knew that there was something going on between Chalice and this stand-in guard... but I just couldn’t prove it yet!
This was the thought swarming through my mind as I walked away from Chalice and her specially picked bodyguard. However, due to how suspicious I was, I had only walked a short distance before I turned around and quietly watched the bodyguard lift Chalice into his arms and walk away hurriedly; But if there was one thing I didn’t miss, it was the way they both seemed so familiar with each other.
It was how Chalice had blatantly refused his services at first, only to switch up so suddenly, it felt surreal.
I turned briefly to the guard standing not so far off from me, and guarding the dining area. I ordered; "Keep an eye on both of them."
For a second, the young soldier seemed so shocked that I would talk to him. His eyes widened for a second and then he dropped his gaze, quite unable to meet my eyes anymore. He muttered; "Yes, Alpha"
"And make sure to give me reports every single day. If you see anything out of the ordinary, then make sure to make a video or something for proper documentation. Do you hear me?"
"Yes, Alpha."
"Good."
I made to walk away when suddenly I looked back at him again because for some reason, I couldn’t help but think that he looked quite familiar. Too familiar. His gaze fell under my intense scrutiny; But deciding to let this go... at least for now, I asked;
"What is your name?"
He gulped. "Jon."
Jon.
Jon.
That also sounded familiar. But shrugging the thought off my mind, I walked away, returning to the dining area where I sat back down between my brothers; and funny enough, they didn’t seem so surprised that Chalice didn’t return with me.
If anything, they looked visibly relieved.
Uncle Damien’s eyes flashed when I walked in. He cleared his throat, flashed a grin at his son and set his fork down, his eyes not once leaving my face as he asked;
"Where’s the lady?"
I know what he meant. I knew who he was talking about, but deciding to act dumb, I furrowed my brows and asked, "Who?"
"Your traitorous Luna." He hissed, and as soon as he said those words, silence settled in the room. Everyone’s eyes turned to my brothers and I skeptically, as if afraid that we would go off on him; And even though I wasn’t mad at his choice of words per say, I was mad that he had the audacity to say it right in our faces.
I was pissed that he had the effrontery to look smug, as if savoring this very tiny win.
"Cat got your tongue? Or is she up to more mischief?!" He asked sarcastically, disrespecting me further;
And maybe it was because I was first frustrated with the whole Chalice issue... then there was Leilani and Alpha Frostclaw who could not stop thinking about; But I found myself rising to my feet so fast that my chair fell to the floor, my fork held tightly in my grip as I literally went off on him.
I vaguely heard the noises behind me as people tried to stop me from what I was about to do; But they were too late.
Too too late.
I had already stabbed the fork into the back of his hand, still not remotely satisfied when his loud cry filled my ears and his blood splattered onto the white tablecloth.
Due to the force I’d used, the fork had gone straight through his body and pierced into the table below. But was I still satisfied?
No. Of course not.
My eyes met his then, and only the goddess knew what he saw because then he shrunk deeper into his chair, his face contorted into a look of fear, wincing in pain as his lower lip trembled.
"I’m... I’m sorry!" He cried loudly, but I ignored him. God, I felt possessed.
Twisting the metal deeper, I spat; "She’s your Luna and everyone else’s. Do you understand that?"
He would remember this and try to repay it... and I hope he does.
