232 Bursted.
Leilani.
After spending about twenty-nine hours pondering over the possibilities of not attending Maya and Gavin’s engagement party, and spending another twenty hours sipping coffee while I wondered if it would be fine to just go for a sudden ‘trip’ in order not to attend, I finally came to a conclusion that was strongly against my wish.
And it was:
That I would attend.
And not just that; that I would also have an uncomfortable one on one with the triplets, that’s they ever try to engage in a conversation with me.
My hands shook as my grip on the paper bag containing my newly bought dress tightened and as I stepped out of the boutique, I stopped in my tracks when I saw Chalice standing at a far corner, in front of a different boutique with both of her hands planted on her waist.
She was dressed in a gray drab for a dress and her hair, usually auburn, was now dyed a strange shade of silver that she wore in a slick back.
And goddess, I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. “Even my hair doesn’t look that ugly.” I whispered under my breath as I watched her bouncing from foot to foot, seeming as though she was waiting for someone.
And I suspected that that certain someone had to be none other than Louis.
Some days ago, after trying so hard and failing to pry any information out of Louis besides how he insisted that he only searched for me after finding out that I had returned back to NYC, even after beating him up, I had asked Jarek’s soldiers to let him go. I had asked them to release him but I’d sent some people after him to keep an eye on him.
And it was paying off…
Or maybe it wasn’t.
I don’t know.
“Baby?” A deep masculine voice suddenly called out, snapping me out of my train of thoughts and I immediately glanced at her direction to find her arms now wrapped around a man’s neck whom I now knew too well.
Louis.
I smiled and took out my phone.
“What took you so long?” Chalice snapped back, sounding as though she was on the verge of tears and I rolled my eyes again when a memory of how she used to be like that with the triplets flashed in my mind.
However, I immediately pushed away that memory when he pulled her in for a kiss. His mouth lingered on hers for a moment too long, and-
Let’s rewind a little.
When Agnes told me about Chalice’s relationship with Louis, I may have believed it but I still had my reservations. So when I saw them today, all mushy mushy and lovey dovey in each other’s arms, goddess, I was stunned.
In fact, stunned was a small word to describe how surprised I was.
Especially since they were in public!
My heart raced as I pressed myself even deeper into the wall to shield myself from their view and it worked because they never turned in my direction even once. And only the goddess knows how they didn’t even smell me as well.
“I got caught up with something important…” he cut in as he pulled her in for another kiss, and while he did so, I couldn’t help but feel my breath catch when he lightly squeezed her butts, his eyes glinting with untapped desire as he pressed his face into the crook of her neck and took a sniff.
Chalice, still acting all pissed, pushed him away. But I didn’t miss the way her fingers stylishly cupped the outer part of his pant’s bulge. “Something more important than me?” She hissed nasally, while draping one of her arms around his neck.
—And I made sure to capture all of these on my phone as I watched them.
“Nothing is more important than you, little mate!” He murmured, earning himself a dimpled smile from her.
Slowly, their conversation went from flirty to serious and in the next minute, they were talking about… *drumrolls*…. me!
My heart dropped into my guts. No scratch that, my anus because I could sure feel it trying to come right out through that hole!
“She caught me,” Louis hissed then, his eyes flashing with rage. “Agnes, that bitch, tipped her off and she caught me.” He added, pulling me back into their conversation.
My hands shook slightly at the mention of mine and Agne’s names; but deciding that keeping this piece of evidence was more important than in how I felt, I held steady and continued to record them.
“Is that why you disappeared for a couple of days? Were you in hiding?”
“No,” he snapped. “I was held hostage.” Then after a moment, he gulped and said; “…you didn’t tell me she looks so much like you. Gosh even now that you’ve dyed your hair this colour, I can hardly tell the difference between you both anymore.”
“Don’t say that,” she grunted. “She’s less beautiful than I am!”
Oh, you wish!
At her words, Louis pressed his lips together but said nothing. Goddess, I had almost begun to think that he’d finally gone mute until suddenly he raised his head to meet her gaze and asked;
“Do you still intend to kill her?”
And that was so random. So so random that bloody Hades, I couldn’t help but freeze.
Goddess, I knew how much Chalice hated me. Knew that she had something to do with both the recent and the old happenings in my life; But hearing it being spelled out like this without filter made me feel some kind of way.
I pushed through the sound of my heartbeat echoing in my ears and continued to eavesdrop on their conversation.
“Do you still want her out of the picture for good?”
My hands holding my phone grew sweaty as I listened to the words he said. But what surprised me the most wasn’t his words, it was the response she gave to him.
She spat; “Yes,” then twirling her hair between her fingers, she added; “…but I want to make sure I take her place afterwards… after her death.”
“Isn’t that impossible?” That was Louis asking and maybe it was the shock from hearing both of them plotting so shamelessly against me, but I found myself shaking slightly.
I found my knees going wobbly.
Goddess, it felt as though I could no longer breathe properly too.
“It isn’t!” Chalice’s voice snapped me back to reality and I gulped when she pressed herself even closer to his body in such a way that her bosoms were entirely resting on
his chest.
He couldn’t help but take a sneak peek and then he flashed her a smile.
“How do you intend to do it?”
“The mages.”
The witches…
My body became even more rigid. Gosh, what the fuck is she planning?
However, I was pulled out of this thought when she turned to glare at Louis, her nostrils flaring as she asked; “So tell me, why haven’t you killed her yet?”
And as soon as she asked him that question, I dropped my hand holding the phone and drew in a deep breath. But by the next time I lifted my head, my breath caught in my
throat.
Why?
Because they were now looking in my direction…
And they looked… totally stunned!
