Darius.
My eyes widened, and I hate to say this, but my heart was pounding so much, it made me temporarily nauseous.
And I have never felt this way before in my entire life!
I knew that I should call Leilani to order. That I should make her release Clara, but something about seeing her so in control, so badass and pissed, aroused me in ways that I couldn’t dare to think of, which was strange.
It was strange because all I have ever felt towards her before now was a sense of duty. An overwhelming need to keep her powers right under my thumb. I have always seen her as a piece of chess, a puppet which I could play with in my spare time, and at the same time, someone who could bring me one step—or several steps closer to achieving my dreams of sitting on the throne.
My heart did a literal flip when she tilted her hands even higher, causing Clara’s head to loll upwards as she groaned; "Spare me, please spare me."
Clara’s shrill voice was what finally pulled me out of my reverie. I turned to Leilani, desperate to get this over with. In that fleeting moment, her eyes met mine and I gulped, crossed my arms over my chest— partly because I wanted to show off my biceps— and drawled;
"Leilani stop,"
"I would stop when you get the fuck out of my house." She argued back, and I should leave.
For Clara’s sake, I should do as the lady has spoken and go. But could I bring myself to do that?
Of course not.
Not when her eyes were swirling with colors so beautiful, they had me mesmerized. Not when I could feel her powers wrapping itself around me like a cloak. Hell, I could even taste it on my tongue and it was... intoxicating.
I stepped forward slowly; "But I cannot leave like this, especially since you... you know..." I let my voice trail away as I pointed to a writhing Clara who looked at me like I was betraying her for not springing into action. For not hurting Leilani for daring to touch her.
She has no idea...
Leilani scoffed. "I’ll get her out just fine, I promise. Goddess, I do not even like the fact that I am hurting her so please, leave first."
And by the gods, I didn’t want to leave. I didn’t just want to walk out in defeat, especially since I had so many things I wanted to say to her... many things I wanted to do to her.
Using super speed, I arrived just beside her in seconds and heavens, just that brief second of being this close to her was enough to run me mad. I dragged in a lungful of her sweet scent before I caught myself—
And that was the last thing I did before I found myself flying a few metres away and crashing into the wall behind me.
My eyes widened. "Leilani...?" I screamed as I tumbled and fell to the floor, taking a few pieces of marble decorations with me as I fell.
When the loud crash rang out, Leilani squeezed her eyes shut and turned away, her voice shaking slightly as she rasped; "I told you, I have my wolf or Lycan or whatever shit it is. So please... leave. You claimed you have always wanted to help me with it. I have done it now..."
She isn’t one of my subordinates... not the usual ones per say. We had a relationship. One that was strictly tied to the bed and my groin... and nothing else.
Something about those words made her expression flicker with something akin to trust... disbelief? Goddess, I do not know! But I made sure to ignore Clara’s piercing glare as I stalked closer to Leilani.
When I arrived by her side, I let my fingers trail over her arm, almost smiling to myself when goosebumps spread across her exposed flesh.
"Let her go..." I said softly, letting my breath fan her ear. "It’s me you want, not her. If there’s any one you should be hurting, then it’s me not her." I said cockily, knowing fully well that she could never hurt me.
She wasn’t strong enough to do that.
Hell, she doesn’t even have the guts, even if she’s strong enough.
These thoughts were the last thing that crossed my mind before I found myself hanging midair and choking. And suddenly, it felt as though the entire air had been forced out of my lungs and like my lungs were literally on fire.
My eyes widened when I realized what was happening, and my shock soon morphed into mortification when I saw the proud smile on Leilani’s face.
She whispered; "You know what, you’re right. You should be the one I am hurting."
And with that, she slammed Clara so hard into the wall that she passed out, leaving me staring into a familiar pair of purple eyes that now seemed strangely unfamiliar.
