Chapter 350: Who did it.

Leilani. š‘“š˜³š˜¦š‘’š‘¤š‘’š˜£š˜Æā„“š˜·š˜¦š“.š‘š‘œš‘š

Never in my life did I ever stop to imagine that a day would come when I would be pronounced dead on national TV for everyone to see.

I never rated myself enough to imagine that my death would be something important enough to make national news, so now that it was happening, I couldn’t help but be shocked.

And do you know what makes the whole situation even funnier, even though it isn’t supposed to be funny?

The fact that I was not dead.

Hell, I am NOT dead.

It was funny that while the entire world mourned my demise, I was in fact lodged in a cheap motel, munching away on some spicy sugary potato chips while I watched my house burn to the ground.

I kept my eyes fixed on the TV screen, and especially on the image now playing on loop which was one where Zevran had tried to charge at the blazing fire. I watched how the people around screamed in fright while he rushed in, but as always, before he could get there, the news station cut off the video, only to restart from the beginning.

"The body of Late Missus Leilani Sinclair of Frostclaw. Inc has been found. She was burned beyond recognition but the identifiers of her corpse are sure that she is the one." The newscaster who was a petite blonde girl informed the camera, and as soon as I heard those words, I froze.

A feeling akin to panic flooded my veins and I didn’t even know when I rose to my feet until I was standing right in front of the TV with my sachet of potato chips strewn on the floor.

"That is not me!" I hissed through gritted teeth. "I am not dead!"

For a couple of minutes, the only sounds I could hear were the buzzing sounds in my ears. My hands shook violently and sweat... hot sweat poured down my skin as I caught a glimpse of the blurred charred body on the screen.

That is not me...

Goddess, there is no way that that is me!

My heart pounded against my chest as I stared pointedly at the screen, and at first, while I struggled with accepting the fact that a body had been found, I also couldn’t help but wonder who the original owner of the body was.

"Hell, it is not me. And since it isn’t, then who the fuck is it? Who would be in my house in my absence? Goddess, was the body planted in my house?!"

These thoughts and several more were the things plaguing my mind as I went off to pour out the contents of my handbag onto the cheap bed. I then fished out my phone from the pile of stuff and turned it on, my breath hitching in my chest when a million and one messages flooded into my phone all at once.

There were over a dozen text messages from Maya and from Gavin. There were also some from Yvette and every other person I knew from Frostclaw. Inc. Jarek and the triplets had called me over a thousand times... but that wasn’t all.

My main problem were the:

Blogs!

Several blogs had tried to reach out to me— the same me that was supposedly dead. There were triggering headlines everywhere I looked, and the more I saw them, the harder it became for me to breathe.

"I am not dead... I am not dead!" I muttered under my breath over and over again like a chant as if trying to convince myself as I read through the triggering contents, and by the time I was done looking through all the texts and reading the memos from news outlets, I was gasping for air. My body had become stiff and my chest was hurting so much, I knew... goddess I knew that if that fire didn’t kill me, then this ache would.

And while I understood the world’s worry for me, I also couldn’t help but be distrusting of everyone. I mean, it was probably one of those people trying to reach out to me that may have planned this hit.

Did you ever think you easily got rid of me? Did you really think I was that easy to get rid of even if you had the support of literally all the Alphas around town?

Those words returned to my mind tauntingly, sending shivers down my spine. And the more I thought about it and how coincidentally I had received it today—the same day that I lost my house, I couldn’t help but fear that all of these had something to do with whoever must’ve sent that.
