Chapter 357: Explain to me...

Leilani.

For a couple of seconds, the only thing I felt was the feeling I have grown accustomed to, especially in these past few days:

Anger.

And I made sure to channel all of that anger into my eyes and voice as I turned to glare at Zevran.

"No," I bit out again, sharper this time. "I cannot. I will not do that... is that why you asked me to turn? To shift back to human form despite knowing how far we are from the place we left our clothes?"

I had half expected him to deny it. I had expected him to be more soft... more gentle and show a bit of compassion. But to my utmost dismay, he didn’t. Instead, she shrugged, his eyes finding everything but my face as he answered;

"Yes. It is exactly why I asked you to turn." he replied softly, almost sounding like he pitied me.

Well, if he really did pity me, then we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now. He wouldn’t be trying to put me through agony when I’d just stepped out of it only a couple of seconds ago.

Something about his response made me so mad, I almost wanted to attack him— almost. That is until I remembered that he was only trying to help me. That this whole thing was just to ensure that I got better. Stronger...

But pushing those thoughts away, I let my eyes flash with rage as I scrambled up to my feet. But I hated that even as I stood up, and even pushed myself to my full height, I still appeared like a miniature adult in front of him.

He was so tall, he towered over me like the Eiffel Tower would to a bungalow. So I glanced away from his eyes that seemed mocking and crossed my arms over my chest, my voice as cold as ice as I seethed; "I am tired."

"I know," he said slowly, worriedly, "...but what you should know is that I am proud of you. I have seen what you can do... but I also want to know how well you can control it. Control is the very thing you need, Leilani, if you want to get back at these people that’s been after you for quite a while now."

At the sound of those words, I whipped my head back to face him, my eyes thinning into fierce slits as I seethed; "I know I need to learn how to control it... but does that mean I have to go through that agony one more time?"

"Yes." His words were sharp and annoying. Very very annoying. "Very soon it won’t feel like agony to you anymore. You would love it." He said, but I wasn’t so convinced so I shook my head.

"Let’s head back,"

But he wouldn’t budge. He didn’t even take his eyes off me even for a second.

As his eyes literally burned holes into my skin, sending heat spreading across my body like a volcanic eruption along the body of a mountain, I couldn’t help but turn away, not trusting my body nor my voice in situations like this.

"What if people discover that you are not actually dead? And worse still, what if it is the same person that tried to kill you that ends up finding out first?"

"Then—" I began to say, but when it suddenly started to feel like a bile was rising in my throat, I choked it down and looked away.

"What if I am not there?" Zevran should’ve taken the hint and stopped talking but he did not. Goddess, what did he end up doing instead? He ended up saying much more cutting words;

He muttered; "what if my brothers are not there and there is no Alpha Frostclaw as well? Would you just let your enemies beat your ass? Would you let them hurt you despite everything they’ve done so far? Everyone says that you are the legendary all powerful hybrid, yet I do not see it. All I see is a young woman who is hurt by everything she’s been put through. All I see is a girl who has so much potential. But do you know what she would do rather than make use of those said potential?" He asked coldly, but for some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to respond.

I was afraid. Afraid of what he would say.
