"Because I trust you three. You’re the only ones I trust," I said, my voice quiet; "...Maya too."

That had been my response when Kael asked me why I was asking for their help, even after they had made it clear to me the reason they didn’t want to appear in front of me anymore, and while that may be true, it was the half truth.

And the truth was that I asked for their help because I wanted them to feel a sense of responsibility towards me. I asked for their help because knowing them, they would never walk away when they felt like they owed me one. I asked for their help, not only because I trusted them— which I did— but also because I was not ready to lose them yet; and in fact, I think I have come to the conclusion that I love them.

The realization made my face heat up until a blush spread across my cheeks to the tips of my ears. It made my chest tighten with barely emotions so wild, I nearly lost my breath. My hand holding onto the stairs’ railing turned ashen due to how hard I was gripping onto it, but despite all of this, I managed a smile.

"Is that enough?" I asked,

The triplets all stared at me like I was mad. "Isn’t my trust in you enough reason for you to stay?"

My response made them go quiet— so quiet that if a pin had been dropped in the room, we would’ve heard it.

I was snapped out of my reverie when I heard the sound of approaching footsteps and I blinked just in time to see that they had stepped forward and were barely a breath away from me.

"What do you need our help with?" Zevran asked, and at that moment, I couldn’t help but smile.

Why?

Because he sounded like a man who would do anything to make me happy. Like a man who would move the heavens and the earth. His tone held a conviction that made my heart flutter.

I looked at him— like really looked at him— and smiled. "Firstly, my father insists that he wants to see Maurice."

"Your mother?"

"Yes," I replied, my voice groggy. I hate when she’s called my mother. "He says they have unfinished business to discuss. He knows that she is locked up in the pack’s dungeons but wants to— needs to— see her."

"Tell him to pick a date and time." Kael chirped in, making my smile widen,

"And with Darius, we want to make him think that he has won."

As soon as I said that, the frowns returned to their faces and I couldn’t help but notice how tense their features suddenly became. Caelum was the first to unravel my plans as he suddenly took a step back, frowned so deeply, creases formed on his face, and then he hissed;

"You want him to believe that you’re ready to mate with him?" He asked, and goddess, he sounded... murderous and looked the part.

His deep dark eyes travelled from my head to my toes with the pace of a sloth, making my body thrum as he hissed; "Is that it?"

I nodded once and all hell broke loose.

"WHAT?!"

"WHY WOULD YOU EVEN CONSIDER DOING THAT?!"

"There is another way!" Kael cut in, looking dangerously close to the edge. "There should be!"

"No!" I snapped, "this is the best way."

For a moment, no one spoke. No one even moved. The triplets stared at me like I was no longer Leilani. Their Leilani. And I... I stared back, refusing to back down.
