Faux Vows, True Desires novel Chapter 524

"All you have to do is divorce Nathan," Madeleine declared with confidence. "I'm certain that Nathan and I will end up together."

"For all these years, Nathan hasn't truly loved you. Back when you were not yourself, he didn't divorce you out of pity—your family had no support, your son was young, and he was just being kind, keeping you around."

"Anyway, having you here is just an extra plate at the table. It's cheaper than hiring a maid since you don't even get paid."

The more Madeleine spoke, the more she convinced herself that as long as Janice divorced Nathan, she and Nathan would definitely be together.

Yes, she had an affair with Hayden, but so what? In today's world, who really waits for their wedding night anymore?

As long as she ceased her involvement with Hayden, Nathan would eventually forgive her. Once she married into the Blue family, she would kick the second and third wives out of Sunnyglade Abbey, out of sight, out of mind, and Nathan would pamper her like he used to.

Janice listened to Madeleine's confident words, feeling more amused than angry.

She wasn't sure what Nathan's intentions had been in the past, but after she regained her clarity, she realized Nathan hadn't touched Madeleine in all those years—not even a kiss. She could see that Nathan and Madeleine were just playing roles in a larger scheme. He was making a strategic move, and Madeleine was merely a pawn in his game.

Madeleine genuinely loved Nathan, devoted to him despite their age difference.

Considering Nathan's actions, likely taken to clear the path for their son, Janice held back a comment about Nathan being a classic player.

In their social circle, everyone wore a mask. Trust was a rare commodity.

It was a game of survival, where it was either you or me.

"I heard you're considering divorcing Nathan, right? Now that your kids are grown and your nephew has made something of himself, you could return to your family or live with your daughter in Pinehurst. I'm sure Nathan would agree if you asked."

Madeleine pulled a card from her purse and placed it before Janice. "I really, really love Nathan. I can't imagine marrying anyone else. Please, let us be together. This is a small compensation from me."

"With the money on this card, you could live comfortably for the rest of your life. When you divorce, Nathan will likely give you something too, but don't demand too much."

Nathan's private wealth was in the billions, and Madeleine was eager to have a child with Nathan to claim a share, not letting Keith and his sister take it all, or let Janice take too much.

"Are you done, Ms. Porter?" Janice asked, puzzled by Madeleine's confidence.

"Pretty much."

Madeleine had come to speak gently to Janice about divorcing Nathan. If Janice didn't take her words seriously, she wouldn't be so polite next time.

This was Skywatch, not Pinehurst. Madeleine had nothing to fear.

Janice's weak spot was her children. If Janice wouldn't budge, Madeleine would target Keith and his sister, forcing Janice to leave Nathan.

Keith had some talent, but Lucinda was easy to handle. She was just a sharp-tongued girl with no self-defense skills.

In Pinehurst, the Anderson family had her back, and her father wouldn't let her touch Lucinda.

But back in Skywatch, even if Stefan came along, this was Porter family territory. A strong outsider couldn't beat a local powerhouse.

Madeleine was already planning to use Lucinda to pressure Janice.
