Chapter 1207
No sooner had Gina finished speaking than the doorbell rang.
Emily picked up Kya, Elliott went to answer the door, and Gina headed for the living room with a bowl of fruit.
Kya seemed to sense Emily’s heartache. She gently stroked her mom’s face with her tiny hand, “Mommy, are you sad because of Grandma?”
Emily tried to hide her sadness and put on a brave face. “No, we have guests coming over. Let’s go meet them.”
“Okay!” Kya hugged her tightly and gently patted her shoulder. “Mommy, don’t be sad, you still have me!”
Emily’s eyes welled up, almost overflowing with tears. She quickly took a deep breath to hide her emotions.
By now, the entrance was bustling. Bonnie had arrived with her brother, parents and a few other relatives, and was exchanging pleasantries with Gina. After the introductions, everyone moved into the living room. Gina introduced Emily to them, “This is my daughter, Emily, and my granddaughter.” “So Elliott’s sister is already married!” Bonnie’s mom exclaimed in surprise. “The child is already so big, and she’s so pretty!”
Bonnie’s dad looked at Martin and laughed, “This must be the child’s father, huh? Quite a handsome fellow!”
Gina quickly responded, “Yes, yes!”
Martin was stunned. He was already a bit overwhelmed by the sudden influx of guests from the Sullivan family, but Gina’s introduction of him as Kya’s father threw him for a loop!
Emily felt mortified and didn’t dare to look at Martin.
Martin quickly got his bearings. He realized the Sullivan family was using him as a shield. He put on a polite smile and started talking with the Ferber family.
Bonnie’s relatives asked, “What do you do for a living?”
Gina immediately answered, “He’s an associate chief physician at South Hospital.”
“You don’t need to apologize!” Martin joked, “I won’t use this to blackmail you or anything. Trust in my integrity!”
Emily felt a bit relieved by his words and sincerely said, “Thank you so much!”
“I’ve already said that you don’t need to thank me. In fact, today has made me even more sure of my feelings for you, I really like Kya, and I know you’re
not the type to disrespect yourself. If you’re ever ready, I’d love to hear your story,” Martin said with a gentle smile.
Emily felt like she owed Martin a favor today, and unlike her usual cold self, she chuckled, “I don’t have a story.”
“I don’t believe that!” Martin laughed softly.
