Kya slowly crawled onto Emily’s lap, hugging her neck tightly. With a hint of worry in her voice, she asked, “Mum, is grandma being mean to you?”

“Mum, let’s not go to grandma’s house next time” Kya seemed to sense Emily’s sadness, her voice full of sympathy

Emily swallowed her tears and nodded slowly, “Okay”

The door suddenly swung open, and Estelle Macclain walked in, carrying grocery bags from the supermarket. Seeing them huddled together on the couch, she asked, “What’s up?”

“Estelle Kya turned around, “Grandma’s been mean to Mum!”

“No way!” Emily shook her head firmly, gripping Kya’s little hand tightly. “If I get married and have kids, what will happen to Kya?*

“Then hurry up!”

Estelle hung up with a smile and told Emily, “Magdalen will be here soon!”
