“Just open the door and see!” Estelle went over, opened the door, and smiled at Charlie standing outside, “How did you get here so fast?”

Charlie was in a slate blue shirt, holding some gifts and wine, and he smiled elegantly, “I happened to be in the area, so I thought I’d drop by. Is Jonathan around?”

“He’s inside!”

Charlie changed his shoes and headed inside, shouting out, “Kya!”

Kya already ran over, her eyes smiling like crescent moons, “Charlie!”

Emily took the gifts from Charlie, looking a bit tense, she smiled and said, “It’s enough that you came, you didn’t have to bring gifts.”

Charlie hugged Kya, whispering, “These were given to me, I don’t need them.”

Emily set the gifts aside, “Make yourself at home, I’m off to cook.”

Jonathan stood up and suggested, “How about Charlie and I take care of the cooking today, and you two keep Kya company.”

Emily immediately said, “That’s not necessary, I can whip up something in no time.”

“I think that’s a great idea!” Estelle pulled Emily back to the living room and told Charlie, “Thanks for your help, Charlie.”

Charlie smiled, “No problem, it’s my pleasure.”

Kya wanted to be with Charlie, she said with childish seriousness, “I’ll help you prepare the veggies!”

“Alright!” Charlie laughed and walked into the kitchen with Kya in his arms.

After a while, Jonathan and Charlie, two men who rarely cook, stood in the kitchen, staring at a pile of ingredients, clueless about where to start.

The kitchen was already small, and with their tall frames, it felt even more cramped.

Jonathan’ glanced at her and said softly, “Don’t rush, if you’re hungry, have some cake. Dinner will be ready soon.”

Charlie looked at him and smiled.

“Don’t worry, I’ve already taken Kya away,” Estelle said with a smile, took Kya with her, and closed the door for them.

Charlie was leisurely washing the tomatoes, laughing, “Tell me, how did you two make up? You were so concerned about Estelle still having Manley in her heart, why doesn’t it bother you now?”

Jonathan’s tone was calm, “I guess I’ve realized something.”
