He was practically beaming when he said, "There are a bunch of girls in my class who are totally into you, Estelle. They'd be green with envy if they knew you were my tutor!"
"Oh! No wonder you wanted me to meet them," Estelle realized with a smile. "Is there someone special among those girls for you?"
"Pfft!" Henson scoffed. "Like I'd fall for those childish girls. I've got grand plans, you know."
"What kind of plans?"
"To be a legend like my hero Jonathan!"
Estelle couldn't help but laugh. "There's something else I need to tell you. My gig with the production crew just wrapped up, and after Magdalen's wedding, I'm heading back to C City to spend some time with my granddad. You'll have to keep up with your studies on your own."
Henson's grades were actually solid enough that he didn't really need a tutor anymore. Estelle's weekly visits had become more about keeping him company, doing homework together, and having a chat to lighten his mood.
"How long will you be gone?" Henson asked.
Estelle thought for a moment. "About a month, I guess."
"Will you be back before my finals?"
"Should be around that time."
"Then try to make it back for that."
Estelle smirked. "Why? Feeling a bit shaky without me?"
Henson's cheeks flushed, but he tried to play it cool. "I just worry that Jonathan will miss you!"
Estelle paused mid-page turn. "Then you should talk to him more."
"What's the use? He's not missing me!"
Estelle woke up early and immediately saw a message from Jonathan: [Still dealing with a few things. Wait for me.]
Holding her phone, Estelle’s lips curved into a smile. [Okay]
Jonathan sent a photo of the city from a high vantage point, the evening lights of the city coming to life against the backdrop of a sunset. The tall, orderly skyscrapers twinkled, reflecting the fiery hues of the sky – a stunning sight.
Estelle walked over to her window and snapped a photo of the morning in J City. The sun was just rising, with the faint morning mist still lingering. The light mingled with the fog, casting a gentle radiance.
That night
Magdalen hosted her bachelorette party, inviting a slew of friends, and Estelle met the other bridesmaids who were heiresses from well-connected families close to the Sampsons.
One of the bridesmaids was Sophia, who had something come up and would arrive early the next morning.
The private room was bustling with noise, almost deafening, and Estelle felt a bit out of her element. She excused herself to get some fresh air on the balcony.
