Lynn fidgeted, his eyes downcast as he whispered in defense, "Since I arrived here, I've had no choice over my own life. Plus, if I was of no use, I would've been killed when I helped Evelyn save you."
Estelle nodded, said nothing more, and turned to leave.
Everyone has their own life experiences and choices. Others can't truly empathize, nor can every situation be judged as right or wrong!
Suddenly, Lynn spoke up, "Ms. Macclain, please don't tell Evelyn about this. Let her think I betrayed her for the luxuries of this place."
"Alright, I'll keep your secret," Estelle replied, her gaze clear. "And thank you for saving me. If you ever need my help, don't hesitate to ask."
Lynn looked a bit dazed and nodded slowly after a moment, "I'll remember that."
Estelle’s gaze shifted, curious. "Where do you work?"
"The forty-eighth floor," Lynn responded.
Estelle nodded once more, asked no further questions, and walked out the door.
Bar Scene
Sylvia and Evelyn chatted for a bit before Evelyn had to leave for an errand.
Sylvia finished her drink, weaving through the crowd toward the bar.
She finally found a spot, and to her surprise, seated next to her was the head butler, Huff. Huff was cozying up to a woman, flirting away.
Sylvia settled into her seat and ordered a cocktail.
Huff turned at the sound, greeting her with a refined tone, "Ms. Beverly!"
She returned the glance with a slight nod, "Mr. Huff!"
As the man set down his glass, eager, he asked, "May I have this dance now, Miss?"
Just as Sylvia reached out, a strong arm extended from behind, blocking her. The voice behind her said, "Sorry, but Ms. Beverly is quite intoxicated. I'll have someone escort her back shortly. She won't be able to dance with you."
Recognizing Huff, the man, though reluctant, turned and walked away.
Sylvia, displeased, turned to Huff, "Why'd you send him away?"
"Ms. Beverly, you are a guest and Mr. Alvis' companion. It's my duty to ensure your safety," Huff said politely.
"No matter!" Sylvia stepped forward, almost pressing against him, and looked up at the tall man, her eyes seductive, "You chased away my dance partner, now you owe me a dance!"
Huff stepped back, "Ms. Beverly, you've had too much to drink!"
But Sylvia reached out, grabbing his shirt and pulling herself close again, "If you won't dance with me, then bring that man back, or I'll complain to Raiden about you!"
