Sophie blinked in surprise, her voice low. "Jason, why do we always rush Old Mr. Quintin's place? Isn't it just to keep him happy? Now that someone can make him happy, we should be glad. I don't mind if Evelyn is pushing me away."
Jason said, "Do you think Old Mr. Quintin, with Evelyn around, would care for you any less?"
Sophie bit her lip and remained silent.
Jason continued, "You've grown up Old Mr. Quintin's side. To him, you're no different from his own granddaughter. He likes Evelyn because of his old attachment; it doesn't conflict with his affection for you. You don't need to distance yourself from Old Mr. Quintin because of Evelyn."
"I haven't." Sophie quickly replied. "How could my relationship with Old Mr. Quintin ever become distant?"
Jason said, "As long as you understand. Whether Evelyn is actually his granddaughter is still uncertain. You don't have to let her words make you abandon the bond you've built with Old Mr. Quintin over the years. Even if she's blood, she doesn't have the right to drive you away."
Sophie said, "I don't want to cause any trouble that would upset Master."
"Dummy," Jason lifted his hand and gently stroked her hair. "You've got me, remember?"
Sophie smiled, "Yeah."
Both were in a clear state of mind. As Jason's hand moved closer, he realized he was overstepping and quickly withdrew it. "You took your medicine. Get some rest. Don't overthink it. What would you like for lunch? I'll cook for you."
Feeling drowsy from the medicine, Sophie tried to muster some energy to make a request, "I'd like some sauerkraut fish."
Jason refused, "You can't have fish when you have a cold and fever. You need something light."
"Then I want spicy crawfish."
Jason raised his hand to his forehead in exasperation. "Forget it, I'll decide what to make. You should go to sleep."
"Oh," Sophie obediently closed her eyes.
Jason tucked her in and left the room.
An hour later, Jason checked on Sophie and found she had broken a sweat and the fever had subsided.
Feeling Jason's touch on her forehead, Sophie opened her eyes, groggy. "Jason, it's so hot."
Sophie propped her chin in her hands, watching him bustle about in the kitchen, and said with a grin, "Having a brother, especially when you're sick, is just the best. It's pure bliss."
Jason glanced back at her, "That's what a boyfriend should be doing for you."
Sophie pouted, "He's really busy."
"He doesn't know you're sick?"
In a small voice, she defended him, "It's just a cold. He doesn't know I had a fever."
Jason didn't want to comment on Robin, so he kept his irritation to himself. He came over, placed the spoon in her bowl, and said calmly, "You should tell him when something's wrong. Let him fuss over you a bit. Otherwise, it'll become a habit for him to neglect you even more."
Sophie nodded, "I get it. I'll tell him next time."
Jason sat across from her, "Just eat."
