Antonia's face, already disfigured, was utterly destroyed by the acid, leaving no trace of the pride and glamour that once defined the Crawley heiress.
She seemed to have lost her grip on reality, screaming incessantly:
"Let me out, I'm not sick!"
"I'm going to expose Estelle, that wench! She harmed me, my whole family, and she's a murderer!"
"She really is, you have to arrest her!"
But soon enough, the sedatives kicked in, and Antonia lay motionless on the bed, too weak to struggle or shout.
The head nurse approached with a deferential air, "Are you Ms. Sampson?"
Magdalen's gaze was sharp, "Aren't you tired of her ranting all day?"
The nurse frowned, "Whenever she's awake, she’s like this."
"Got any other tough cases in the hospital?" Magdalen inquired.
After a moment's thought, the nurse replied, "Plenty. There's one with severe aggression issues. Just a whisper in her ear and she lashes out. We had to isolate her in a room to herself."
"Perfect, put her in a room with Antonia. Fight fire with fire, keep her quiet." Magdalen suggested.
"Will do, I'll make the arrangements," the nurse agreed.
Magdalen nodded, gave Antonia one last glance, and left. The Crawley family's downfall owed much to Antonia; now, it was her turn to repent for the rest of her days.
Willowbrook Plaza.
It was three in the afternoon when Gabriel returned and headed straight for the shower.
Emerging refreshed, he found Sylvia still asleep. Without a word, he dressed and left.
Their relationship didn't require goodbyes. Every encounter could be the last.
Once in his car, he received a text from Sylvia, [Will I see you again soon?]
"Never mind, never mind," Old Mr. Jarvis waved it off with a smile. "Bring them by sometime; I'd like to meet them."
Gabriel didn't respond, shifting the topic, "And Old Mr. Quintin?"
"He's entertaining a visitor in the study," Old Mr. Jarvis replied, then suddenly took the teacup from Gabriel's hand, "Stop with the tea, go upstairs and rest."
Gabriel raised an eyebrow, rest now?
"Go on," Old Mr. Jarvis urged him.
Reluctantly, Gabriel stood, draped his coat over his arm, and headed upstairs.
Crossing paths on the staircase with Evelyn, she greeted him cheerfully, "Gabriel, you're back."
He acknowledged her with a nod and continued his ascent.
Evelyn opened her mouth to say more, but as they brushed past each other, she hesitated for a split second. By the time she gathered her thoughts, Gabriel had already reached the top of the stairs.
