Estelle had just returned to the Royal Mansion when her phone erupted with urgency. She gently pushed past Jonathan, and made a beeline for the living room to take the call. "Hey, Jason."
On the other end, Jason sounded concerned. "Estelle, you up? Sophia's come down with something fierce; she's running a high fever. Can you check on her?"
"Sophia's sick again?" Estelle's gaze sharpened with worry. "On it, I'll head over right now."
"Take it easy on the road, okay?"
"Will do."
She hung up in a hurry and pivoted back to Jonathan, who was making his way towards her. "Sophia's home alone with a fever. I need to swing by her place."
Jonathan grabbed her coat, draping it over her shoulders. "Don't panic. I'll drive us there."
"Thanks."
They hurried out, jumped into the car, and set off for Sophia's apartment.
Knowing the entry code by heart, Estelle didn't hesitate to unlock Sophia's door and push it open.
Jonathan stayed back in the living room, while Estelle strode straight to the bedroom.
"Sophia, you okay?" She flicked on the light.
Sophia managed to pry open her eyes, her face a sickly shade of yellow from the fever, and murmured weakly, "Estelle, what are you doing here?"
Estelle sat at the edge of the bed, feeling Sophia's forehead—it was scorching. "Jason called me," she said, frowning. "Why didn't you tell me you were this bad? We're heading to the hospital now."
Sophia shook her head, a childlike stubbornness taking hold. "No hospital. I don't want to go."
"Not up for discussion this time," Estelle insisted, grabbing some clothes and dressing Sophia. "You need a doctor, and that's final."
"Please, Estelle, I’ll just take some medicine." Sophia pleaded, her eyes begging for sympathy.
Estelle was firm, though, wrapping Sophia in a sweater and lifting her up. "We're going, now."
Jason's face was stoic, but Estelle could see the worry in his eyes as he greeted Jonathan with a nod.
His calm exterior did little to hide the chaos he felt inside, his gaze fixed on the emergency room door.
"Where’s Sophia's boyfriend?" Estelle asked, anger creeping into her voice. "She's this sick, and no one's taking care of her?"
Jason recounted the day's events. "I didn't want to cause any misunderstandings, so I left. But Robin was still there when I did. He knew Sophia was ill."
Jonathan darkened at the mention of Robin, but he kept his thoughts to himself.
Estelle was livid. "Are they still fighting? No matter the argument, how could he just leave Sophia alone like that?"
Jonathan squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Let's not jump to conclusions. We'll ask Sophia what happened when she's up for it."
Estelle nodded, the concern for her friend etched deep within her eyes.
