Baron chuckled lightly, "No need to fish for information from me. After all, I've served a few years in the military; I'm not that naive. This matter has nothing to do with me. I just happen to know a couple of folks at the police station and got wind of it, that's all."
Sylvia retorted, "The police car hasn't even reached the station yet? Mr. Barlow, your contacts are indeed quick to report!"
"We're both smart here, so I'll cut to the chase. I've taken a liking to you!" Baron declared boldly, "Spend a night with me, and I'll pull some strings to make sure Gabriel gets an easier time inside. How about it?"
Sylvia's voice dripped with disgust, "In your dreams! I feel sick just looking at you!"
Baron's tone turned icy, “Sylvia, don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Playing the high and mighty card now, are we?"
Sylvia took a deep breath, "Baron, you'll regret this!"
Baron scoffed, "Not bailing out Gabriel is what you'll regret! He's up for manslaughter. If charged, he's looking at years behind bars. Don't you want to save him? Just one night with me, and I can make the charges disappear. How's that for a deal?"
Sylvia shot back, "Were you also the result of a transaction between your parents?"
Enraged, Baron snapped, “Sylvia, you—"
Sylvia abruptly ended the call.
Soon after, a message came through, [Sylvia, I'm giving you time to think. Come find me by evening, and I'll let Gabriel go. Otherwise, brace yourself for visiting hours!]
Sylvia blocked Baron's number, sitting back in her chair, her face as serene and cold as a marble statue.
At the Police Station
With several injured and one rushed to the hospital due to excessive bleeding, the station was abuzz, thinking a major case had landed on their doorstep.
Meanwhile, Gabriel sat in the interrogation room, enjoying a moment of peace.
His phone rang, and he saw it was Audrey on the line, her voice tinged with urgency. "I heard from Shirley you're locked up for assault. Which station are you at? I'm coming."
Gabriel didn't question how Shirley knew, simply responding, "No need."
"No!" Gabriel's tone softened, "She's a thousand times more noble than you!"
Furious, Audrey warned, "Gabriel, you'll regret this!"
Gabriel ended the call.
Only then did he see Sylvia's message, "I want to kill him!"
The usually calm and collected "kitten" had shown her claws!
Gabriel smiled slightly, texting back, "Stay calm, wait for me."
After a while, Sylvia replied,
"Okay."
