"Let me break it to you, everything was just a facade!"
And the truth behind it all was so unsavory!
Sophia felt like she had been hit over the head with a baseball bat, her entire worldview shattered to pieces!
Zoey continued, "I'll admit, Robin is smart. After studying abroad, he really seemed to thrive, but I just can't stand him. The guy is all about quick wins and completely fake, preying on naive girls like you."
Sophia couldn't bear to listen any longer and stood up, "Excuse me, I need to use the restroom!"
"Sure, we can chat more when you get back!" Zoey said with a laugh.
*
Sophia made her way to the restroom inside the private room, splashing cold water on her face, feeling utterly ridiculous!
All those years of secret crushes, all those years of admiration, were based on a lie.
She never truly knew Robin.
What she liked was just a shadow she had conjured up.
Thinking back on the decade she had been deceived, suddenly, the hate and pain seemed to fade, leaving only anger.
Luckily, they had already broken up. She didn't have to deal with a phony person anymore, didn't have to confront him about whether these things were true or not.
After calming down for a while, just as she was about to leave, she heard a "thud," as if the restroom wall had been bumped into from the other side.
On the other side of the wall was the club's so-called "punishment room."
Listening closely, she could hear faint sounds coming through.
Everyone exchanged knowing looks and continued with their games.
Zoey called out to Sophia, "Come on, join us!"
Sophia shook her head, "No thanks, you guys go ahead."
The group resumed their games amidst suggestive chuckles, while Sophia paid them no mind, peacefully engrossed in her mobile game.
About half an hour later, Crystal stumbled over, slumping next to Sophia, her head on Sophia's shoulder, "I can't, I drank too much, I'm done!"
She had been jet-lagged from her flight back the night before, hadn't slept well, and a few drinks were enough to spin her head.
Sophia poured her a glass of ice water, "If you're feeling bad, you should head home!"
