Sylvia was momentarily speechless, caught off-guard by the unfolding scene.
Milanda came over with a plate of cookies, "The boss's favorite, all for you!"
The others joined in, bringing Sylvia into their fold with drinks and snacks, and even queued up a few festive songs, elevating the holiday spirit to its peak.
Amid the cheerful encouragement from everyone, Eugene sang "The Rest of My Life."
Halfway through, he couldn't help but glance at Sylvia, who seemed lost in thought, her gaze fixed on the screen.
While the room buzzed with laughter and chatter, Sylvia sat there, seemingly untouched by the jovial atmosphere.
Eugene couldn't tell if it was affection or sympathy he felt for her reserved nature, but it lent a sincere softness to his song, making it all the more heartfelt.
As he finished, applause and cheers filled the room.
Turning to Sylvia, Eugene offered, "What song would you like? I'll pick it for you."
Sylvia shook her head, "I don't sing."
Eugene didn't press her, instead, he passed the mic to someone else and sat back down by her side.
With a majority of girls in the private room, the banter and drinking games flowed freely. Eugene remained in good spirits throughout, attentively ensuring Sylvia felt included, showcasing his charm and patience.
Leaning close, Milanda whispered to Sylvia, "Boss, Eugene's really something, isn't he?"
Sylvia quipped, "You have a crush on him?"
"I really would! I love my boyfriend, but aside from his looks, he's quite mediocre. In five, ten years, he'll probably still be a low-level employee, with no prospects. But if I were with Eugene, I could spend the rest of my days in comfort, doing whatever I wish!" Milanda laughed heartily. "So, why wouldn't I choose Eugene? Life's too short to make it hard on yourself!"
After her spiel, she quickly raised her hands, "I'm just saying, though. Eugene's only got eyes for you, boss. Just take my ramblings as the wine talking."
Sylvia couldn't pass judgment on Milanda's words; everyone has their own idea of happiness and aspirations. As long as it's lawful and moral, striving for a better future is never unjust.
They clinked their glasses together, "Choosing your boyfriend means you still cherish your current life. Following your heart ensures you'll have no regrets."
Milanda took a sip, "You're not wrong, boss. But I still hope you'll consider what I've said. The only way to get over someone is to fall for someone else."
Sylvia's lashes fluttered, her gaze dropping. Was she ready to move on?
Milanda concluded, "Boss, I just don't want you to be alone forever."
