Sophia arrived at Old Mr. Quintin's mansion and, without waiting for Jason, headed straight inside. The maid greeted her with a pair of slippers and a warm smile. "Miss, you're back. This morning, the master was just mentioning how you both haven't visited in a while."
Sophia forced a smile and huffed, "Been thinking about him. Rushed over as soon as I got off work."
As she swapped her shoes, she looked around, asking, "Where's Grandpa?"
"The master is in his study with a guest, Miss Evelyn is in the living room watching TV," replied the maid cheerfully.
True enough, Sophia found Evelyn lounging on the sofa, thoroughly enjoying a comedy show, judging by the laughter emanating from the TV and her bright smile. However, her smile froze for a moment upon noticing Sophia.
Sophia didn't bother with her and headed upstairs.
Evelyn's eyes flickered, and she set the remote down, following Sophia upstairs.
Sophia went to her room and laid her coat on the bed, about to change her clothes, when Evelyn walked in. The door was ajar, and she didn't knock. "Sophia!"
Sophia turned around, "What's up?"
Evelyn's tone was amiable. "Actually, there's something I'd like to talk to you about."
Sophia, her short hair giving her a brisk, refreshing look, said, "Shoot!"
Evelyn took a step forward, "I've been pretty bored staying at home all day. I was thinking about working at your studio. Is that okay?"
"Do you have any experience in design?" Sophia inquired.
Jason turned to pour some tea, ignoring her.
Feeling a bit bored and upset over Sophia's rejection, Evelyn sat on the opposite couch and fell silent.
It took a moment for Old Mr. Quintin to notice something was off. He chuckled, "Why so quiet? It's rare to see you like this!"
Evelyn looked up, giving a sheepish smile, "Just feeling a bit down."
"What happened?" Old Mr. Quintin inquired.
After a brief hesitation, Evelyn began, "I've been idle at home and wanted to find a job to be independent. I'm still young, can't keep living off Grandpa. I like the idea of being a designer and asked Sophia for guidance, but she said my education isn't enough. It makes me feel so useless!"
