“Of course!” Milanda grinned and handed over the stack of paperwork. “Boss, your signature, please!”

That evening, Amy treated everyone to dinner. Afterward, the group headed out for karaoke.
Because of what happened with Harry and that hostess, Amy had soured on Blue Oasis, so she splurged and booked a private room at 9th Mansion instead.
No one mentioned Harry. It felt just like any other night out—joking, laughing, trying to wash away the heaviness lingering around Amy after her recent breakup.
Amy poured herself a drink and walked over to Eugene. “Mr. Winters, I owe you one,” she said, raising her glass. “If you ever need anything, just say the word—I’d do it in a heartbeat.”
“Don’t make it sound so dramatic—I’m not expecting you to risk life and limb,” Eugene replied with a gentle smile, clinking his glass against hers. “Do you know why I helped you?”
Amy blinked in surprise. “No, why?”
He grinned. “Because when Harry tried to get you to betray Sylvia, you refused. That alone is enough—for whatever trouble you’re in, I’ll have your back.”
Amy glanced at Sylvia, who was sitting nearby. “Of course I’d never betray my boss. Not in a million years.”
Eugene nodded. “Honestly, I worry Harry might go off the rails and take it out on not just you, but Sylvia too.”
Amy’s face fell with guilt. “I’m so sorry for dragging you into my mess.”
Seated beside Eugene, Sylvia turned and gave him a meaningful look. “Lydia already learned her lesson. Let’s not dwell on it.”
Amy quickly chimed in, “It’s okay, boss. If Mr. Winters wants to say something, I’ll listen.”
With a knowing smile, Eugene continued, “You’ve been with Sylvia since the very beginning. You know what kind of person she is—how much she cares about all of you. Just keep that in mind moving forward, and try not to let her worry. I don’t need any grand gestures of gratitude. Just treat your boss well, and that’s enough for me.”
Sylvia glanced at Eugene, her eyes shining a little darker.
Amy nodded eagerly. “I really mean it—I know I screwed up, and I’ve already apologized to Sylvia. Don’t worry, Mr. Winters, I promise I won’t cause any more trouble.”
“I know you’re a thoughtful person,” Eugene said. “Stick with Sylvia. She’ll always look after you.”
“I understand.” Amy looked at Sylvia with sincere gratitude, then knocked back her drink in one go.
She poured another glass for Sylvia, but Sylvia laughed. “No need to be so formal. Go have fun with everyone else!”
But after a moment, Eugene simply reached over, took her glass away, and replaced it with juice. His gaze was still gentle. “If your stomach’s acting up, maybe go easy on the alcohol.”
Sylvia stared at him, momentarily at a loss for words.
Then the others started egging Eugene on to sing. Someone chose “Words Left Unsaid,” and he took the mic, sitting on a high stool. As the lyrics scrolled across the screen, he began to sing, his voice low and steady:
You walked with me through summer’s hush,
We wandered into city lights and noise.
Your eyes, bright as pomegranate blooms,
Once held laughter, warmth, and joy.
Now your tenderness is gone,
Lost amid the drifting years—
Time can’t be held, nor clouds that wait in vain.
