Just three seconds after Estelle sent the message, her phone rang. It was Jonathan.
She looked at the screen, hesitating. Worried Jonathan might say something to make Lambert uncomfortable, she declined the call and sent a text instead.
[What did you want to say?]
Jonathan replied instantly. [Why did you hang up on me? What’s he here for?]
Estelle ignored the first question. [He’s probably here for our wedding.]
[Why do you have to treat him to lunch?]
[He’s a guest. It’s common courtesy.]
Jonathan was clearly displeased. [Send me the address.]
Estelle sent him the name of the restaurant.
Up front, Manley and Lambert were still bickering. Estelle closed her eyes, deciding to tune them out.
She had Manley drive to the restaurant owned by Kim Larsen. As they got out of the car, they saw Jonathan standing by the entrance. Dressed in a bespoke suit, he looked tall, elegant, and impeccably refined. He was checking his watch, about to call her.
Manley saw him and frowned. “Why is he here?” he asked Estelle.
“Jonathan knows Lambert too,” she replied.
Manley looked annoyed and was about to turn back, but Lambert taunted him, “What, can’t even face him? Running away already? No wonder you let him have the woman you like.”
“What?” Estelle looked at Lambert, confused.
Manley’s face turned grim. He looked like he wanted to punch Lambert again, but with Estelle watching, he smoothed his expression into a smile. “Great! It’s good that Jonathan’s here. I haven’t seen him in a while either.”
“Manley hit him?” A thin smile touched Jonathan’s lips. For the first time, Manley had done something that pleased him.
A few minutes later, the four of them were seated in a spacious, elegantly decorated private room. The air was thick with silence.
Estelle took a deep breath, regretting her decision to tell Jonathan. His presence had only made things more awkward.
Manley, however, seemed oblivious to the tension. He looked relaxed and at ease as he poured Estelle a glass of juice. “Estelle, I found this amazing chocolate in RS over the New Year. I bought the factory, so from now on, every piece of chocolate you eat will have our names on it.”
Lambert stared at Manley in astonishment. Even if their feelings were mutual, wasn't that a bit too brazen in front of Alvis? He himself had never been so bold.
Jonathan’s sharp gaze swept over. “Does Manley Scott think my Lamont family can’t afford chocolate?” he said coolly. “Does my wife need someone else to buy it for her?”
Manley raised an eyebrow. “Why don’t you ask Estelle, Mr. Lamont? Am I just ‘someone else’ to her?”
“If you’re going to argue, I’m leaving,” Estelle said calmly. “I’ll leave the three of you to it.”
