Old Mr. Jarvis asked, “Have the guests out front all left?”
Gabriel replied, “Most of them. Lionel and the others are handling things, so you don’t need to worry.”
Old Mr. Jarvis nodded and turned to Estelle. “Estelle, will you be able to sleep? If not, Grandpa can stay up and chat with you a little longer.”
Estelle closed the album and yawned. “You should go to bed. If I can’t sleep, I’ll find Magdalen to talk to.”
They said their goodnights, and Estelle and Gabriel left together.
A message came through on her phone from Jonathan.
[Ella, it’s past midnight!]
In just a few more hours, he would be coming to pick her up.
Estelle smiled softly as she typed a reply, [Go to sleep!]
Jonathan: [I can’t.]
Estelle didn’t reply again, instead taking a deep breath of the cool night air. Maybe it was the atmosphere, but she felt incredibly refreshed.
The night grew deeper and quieter, and the lanterns under the eaves glowed a brilliant, festive red that filled one's heart with joy.
Gabriel walked toward Sunrise Villa, reminding her gently, “Don’t stay up too late with Magdalen and the others. You need to get at least a little sleep. If you can’t, ask Old Wade for some calming incense.”
Estelle’s lips curved into a smile. “I know!”
She stood under the veranda, looking at Gabriel, her voice soft but earnest. “Thank you.”
