She froze for a moment, her eyes locking onto the man as her heart began to race uncontrollably.
Estelle also noticed Xavier and glanced over at Norah, who was staring at him in a daze. Estelle couldn’t help but smile.
Xavier arrived late, greeted Gabriel, Jonathan, and the others, and then sat down amongst them.
Norah immediately felt more at ease.
Magdalen gave Sylvia a meaningful look. “This is your moment—do your thing!”
But Norah quickly interrupted, “Let’s not. I can already guess what Mr. Flemmings is thinking. I’ll figure things out myself.”
Sylvia nodded. “If you need anything from me, just ask.”
Norah responded cheerfully, “Of course! We’re family, so I won’t stand on ceremony with you.”
After a while, Norah’s phone rang. She stood to take the call, and when she returned she began searching for her bag. “Estelle, my coworker is out of town on a business trip and needs some files urgently. They’re on my computer, so I need to go back to the office.”
“That urgent?” Estelle frowned, “I’ll drive you over.”
It was the weekend. Estelle and Jonathan had spent the day at home and brought Norah along to this evening’s get-together, so Norah didn’t have her own car.
But Magdalen kept Estelle from getting up, holding her by the wrist. “Isn’t this exactly the kind of situation when a certain someone should step in?”
Catching on, Estelle’s eyes sparkled and she went over to Xavier.
Xavier was in the middle of a conversation with Gabriel, a teasing tone in his voice. “Didn’t you say you’d never get married?”
Gabriel looked unbothered. “Things change. There’s really nothing to fuss over.”
Xavier smirked. “You’re the boss—whatever you say goes. I’ll just say congrats!”
Gabriel smiled lightly. “What about you? Both Estelle and Jonathan are here. Don’t you want to share your thoughts about her?”
Xavier poured himself another drink and shook his head, “Never really thought about it.”
Gabriel pressed, “I’m married now. You still haven’t considered settling down?”
Xavier glanced back at her. While his expression didn’t change much, he did noticeably slow his pace.
They got into the elevator. It was crowded, mostly with men who had clearly been drinking—their faces flushed as they talked loudly, the air thick with the smell of alcohol.
Xavier positioned himself in front of Norah, using his tall frame to shield her from the other men’s weaving and stumbling.
As the elevator doors closed, one man suddenly fixed his gaze on Norah, leering. “You new around here?”
Norah frowned, staying silent.
Xavier gave the man a chilling look but didn’t respond.
Fueled by alcohol, the man grew bolder, reaching out to touch Norah’s face. “You’re a real beauty, aren’t you…”
Before his greasy hand could get close, Xavier grabbed his wrist and, in one swift motion, flipped him over his shoulder and slammed him hard into the elevator door.
There was a loud bang, and the man let out a cry of pain.

As the plot thicken. Adrian is done for and he can't try to control Norah, so he'd probably tattle to Janice who's gone for two weeks. Thank you soooo much for the updates....
