Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 3011

Charlie rested his hands on the steering wheel, a torrent of unspoken words lodged in his throat.

The atmosphere inside the car turned heavy and suffocating.

After a moment, he broke the silence, his tone clipped. "Why didn't you tell me your new boss was bullying you?"

"I can handle it myself," Emily replied.

"Then why does Wilson know?"

Emily frowned. "I have no idea."

Lately, she had only run into Wilson once during her dinner with Orval. After that, they had only discussed opening the studio. They hadn't really gone into the details of their respective jobs.

She genuinely had no clue how Wilson found out about Adelaide targeting her. When he brought it up earlier, it had taken her completely by surprise.

"You two are opening a studio together?" Charlie demanded.

Emily paused, then nodded. "Yes."

His voice dropped an octave. "Why am I completely in the dark about this?"

Taking a deep breath, she explained, "Betty only briefly mentioned it before. I hadn't made up my mind yet, so I didn't say anything to you."

Charlie let out a cold scoff. "You're already here renting a space, and you still haven't made up your mind?"

The memory of sitting in his car, watching her and Wilson laughing and chatting as they discussed the studio, made his chest tighten with a suffocating wave of anger. She was his girlfriend, yet she kept him shut out, while Wilson seemed to know every detail of her life.

They had fought over this before, and Emily had no energy to rehash a baseless argument. She pressed her lips together and stared out the window, her beautiful profile set in stubborn displeasure.

Taking a mental step back, Charlie sighed. "Fine. We won't talk about Wilson. Let's talk about your job. What's your new boss's name?"

Emily remained silent.

Pulling out his phone, Charlie dialed a number. "Find out who the new design director at Paragon Pixel Design is."

When Emily had mentioned Padgett's upcoming promotion, Charlie had even helped her pick out a congratulatory gift for him. Given how swamped she had been recently, he naturally assumed she was working hard to support Padgett in his new role.

Now, it was glaringly obvious that Padgett wasn't the one who had been promoted.
