"Norah!"
His voice was hoarse and frantic as he pounded on the door next to his.
The door swung open, and Norah launched herself directly into his arms.
Xavier scanned the room over her head. Finding no immediate threat, his racing heart finally began to slow. "What happened?"
Her voice trembled violently. "There... there's a mouse!"
Xavier let out a heavy sigh, offering a mix of explanation and comfort. "It's normal to have mice out here. It's just passing through. It won't bite you, and honestly, it's probably terrified of you."
Norah shook her head frantically against his chest, paralyzed by fear.
Looking down, Xavier finally realized that Norah was wearing nothing but her T-shirt. Her slender, bare legs were completely exposed, the smooth skin practically glowing in the dim light.
Meanwhile, he had just stepped out of the shower himself. He was wearing sweatpants but was entirely shirtless.
His throat instantly went bone-dry. He swallowed hard, a deep crease forming between his brows as he raised his hands to push her away.
But Norah was completely terrified and clung to him for dear life.
Standing out in the hallway, Xavier realized someone might see them. He quickly scooped her up, carried her inside, and kicked the door shut.
With absolutely nothing underneath her T-shirt, she was pressed flush against his bare chest. He could feel every drop of blood in his body rushing straight to his head.
He dropped her onto the bed and hastily tossed the blanket over her. Realizing her state of undress, Norah yanked the covers up to her chin, her face burning crimson.
Xavier took a deep, ragged breath, his voice significantly raspier than usual. "I'm going to ask Dylan if they have any traps."
Norah bit her lip and nodded frantically.
Xavier spun around and walked out. Norah stole a quick glance at his broad shoulders and narrow waist before quickly averting her eyes, a sudden flutter in her chest as she looked out the window.
Xavier ducked into his room to throw on a shirt before hunting down Dylan.
Dylan was incredibly apologetic. He handed Xavier a few sticky traps, instructing him to place them near the bed where the mice usually scurried.
