Tucking her phone away, Norah looked out the window. Her thoughts inevitably drifted back to Gonzalez. She quirked an eyebrow in realization. She had no idea if the guy even had a girlfriend, yet she had just boldly promised to play matchmaker. That was a little presumptuous of her.
She turned to Adrian. "Do you know Uncle Gonzalez well?"
Adrian instantly went on high alert. He tried to sound casual. "Not really. Why do you ask?"
Norah chuckled. "Sara wants his number. I figured I'd ask if you knew whether he was single or not."
The knot in Adrian's chest instantly loosened. He let out a breath and laughed. "Did Sara really fall for Gonzalez after one glance?"
Norah fiddled with her phone, her tone light and teasing. "Sara falls in love with any guy who has a nice face. It's totally on brand for her."
Adrian studied her reflection in the rearview mirror. "Are you really going to give her his number?"
"Sure, if I had it," she shrugged. "But I don't."
She wasn't even sure if their paths would cross again, but if they did, she supposed she could ask.
Adrian seamlessly shifted the topic. "Your birthday is coming up. What kind of gift do you want? I've got one ready, but I want to make sure I cover all the bases."
Norah's eyes sparkled as she gave a sweet laugh. "I don't need gifts. I just want to be able to stand up and walk on my birthday."
Adrian laughed warmly. "That's above my pay grade. Only a doctor can give you that. Pick something I can actually pull off."
Norah shrugged playfully. "Then I'm out of ideas."
She playfully rolled her eyes. "Besides, you're not supposed to ask what someone wants. It completely ruins the surprise."
"I just don't want to get you something you hate," he explained.
Norah lacked absolutely nothing. She had all the jewelry, designer bags, and haute couture a woman could ask for; she wouldn't even bat an eye at standard luxury gifts. He wanted to give her something truly unique.
Her smile was bright and easy. "I won't make it too hard on you then. Once I'm back at the office, just approve a few extra days of PTO."
Adrian chuckled. "Deal. I'll write you some 'Get Out of Work Free' cards. You can cash them in whenever you want."
"Well, yeah. Why else would Sara want his number?" Norah smirked. "She's obsessed with good-looking guys."
"But what do you think?" Adrian pressed.
"He's alright, I guess." Norah eyed him, thoroughly perplexed. "Why are you so obsessed with him? Don't tell me you have a crush on him, too."
Adrian slammed on the brakes at a red light, utterly thrown by the absurd question.
He glared at her. "Are you out of your mind? Absolutely not! I was just making conversation."
Norah giggled, her eyes curving into bright crescents. "Relax, I'm just messing with you."
Adrian's eyes darted away, his voice stiff. "I am strictly into women."
Norah raised an eyebrow. "Like Jenny Jordan?"

As the plot thicken. Adrian is done for and he can't try to control Norah, so he'd probably tattle to Janice who's gone for two weeks. Thank you soooo much for the updates....
