When they reached the glass skywalk, the usually bold and fearless Sara was so terrified she dropped straight to her knees. When Adrian tried to help her up, she clung to his thigh with a death grip, refusing to let go.
"I'm not doing this!"
"I want to go home! I want my mom!"
"Adrian, did you suggest this just to get revenge on me? I wasted my breath calling you a magnanimous guy!"
With a bottomless abyss directly beneath her feet, her legs had turned to jelly. She couldn't stand up at all.
Adrian looked entirely falsely accused, bursting into a booming laugh. "Keep complaining, and I'm taking my leg back!"
Sara hugged it even tighter. "Bro! Boss! I'll shut up!"
Norah was laughing so hard she was doubled over. She and Adrian each grabbed one of Sara's arms and literally dragged her across the glass.
Thankfully, Sara wasn't the only one having a meltdown on the skywalk, so her screaming didn't draw too much embarrassing attention.
Watching the three of them mess around, a faint smile tugged at the corner of Gonzalez's lips. Suddenly, he thought about how incredible it was to be young.
To be able to goof off without a care in the world, to constantly radiate passion and excitement. Even just standing on the sidelines, he could feel their vibrant, youthful energy.

By the time they returned to the base camp at the foot of the mountain, dusk had fallen. The sky was heavy with twilight, surrounded by lush green mountains. Under a thin veil of mist, the distant, isolated peaks looked even more majestic.
Lorelei and Whitney were already back, lounging in folding chairs and chatting. When they saw the group return, Lorelei greeted Norah and Sara as if absolutely nothing had happened.
Earlier, when Norah had asked why Lorelei hadn't hiked up with them, Sara had vaguely mentioned that they went to a different attraction, completely omitting the nasty confrontation.
Unaware of the drama, Norah was about to respond nicely, but Sara swiftly yanked her back.
Norah whipped her head around. Her face was dripping wet, and her bright, pure eyes still held traces of uncontained laughter. She looked stunningly radiant, enough to make anyone's heart skip a beat.
Gonzalez's dark gaze dropped to her bare, luminous feet and rolled-up pants, then shifted to Adrian's soaked clothes. A fiery surge of jealousy tore through his chest. His face darkened ominously. "Put your shoes on!"
Norah's smile vanished. "The water temperature is perfect right now, and the current isn't strong!"
"Get out of the water," the man commanded, his jaw tight, his tone leaving absolutely zero room for argument.
Feeling helpless, Norah trudged back to the bank and slipped her shoes back on.
Adrian hauled the heavy bucket out of the river and marched right up to Gonzalez. He let out a mocking sneer. "Someone loves throwing around their 'uncle' status, but really, they're just satisfying their own selfish desires!"
Gonzalez pinned him with a glacial stare. "Her leg is still in the recovery phase. Did you forget that? If she slips and falls, she'll need a second surgery. Or are you just that clueless?"
Adrian stood his ground righteously. "I just wanted her to have fun. I know my limits, and I'd protect her!"
