Back when they were in Bloomfield, she had complained that he went to see the sunrise without her.
This time, they could watch it together.
Norah just stretched, looking completely uninterested, and politely declined. "I doubt I'll be able to wake up in time!"
Gonzalez fell silent. The realization hit him with a sudden, suffocating weight—she hadn't loved watching sunrises; she had loved watching them with Xavier Flemmings.
Why had he always ignored her feelings back then? Why had he never understood her heart?
And even when he did understand, he hadn't cherished it.
It was only after losing her that he realized how utterly irreplaceable she was.
Norah waved at him. "I'm going to bed. You should get some sleep soon, too, Uncle Gonzalez."
He nodded. "The temperature drops drastically at night, and it gets damp. Make sure you use your sleeping bag."
"Got it!" she replied, her voice thick with exhaustion as she turned toward her tent.
Right before ducking inside, she glanced over at Lorelei's campsite. They were still awake. Three people were gathered around, drinking and chatting.
Two girls and one guy. The guy was Caleb, but his girlfriend was nowhere in sight.
Norah bent down and slipped into her tent.
Sara was heavily intoxicated and sleeping so deeply she could probably be carried off without waking up.
Norah turned off the lantern and crawled into her sleeping bag.
She had been exhausted just moments ago, but now that she was lying down, sleep evaded her. Turning her head slightly, she peeked out and saw the silhouette of a man still sitting in the chair. Gonzalez hadn't gone to bed.
He seemed to be burdened by something heavy, always so quiet and brooding.
Perhaps he hadn't moved on from his last relationship. For a man who seemed so cold on the outside, he was surprisingly devoted.
Thinking of the bracelet he had given her, Norah reached into her pocket in the dark. The silver was cool to the touch before warming against her skin. As her fingers traced the intricate engravings, a faint, blurry image flashed through her mind.

Someone needs to send a new picture of Trevor to Oliver and Luke so that they will get their requested reports to Gonzalez asap. If they didn't know, now they know what awaits them if they continue to disrespect and NOT follow orders....
