The moment Jonathan arrived, the lively atmosphere in the room immediately quieted down.
Some people possessed an aura that naturally commanded awe. Even dressed casually today, Jonathan exuded an undeniable, imposing presence.
The gathering suddenly felt less like a housewarming celebration for Norah and more like a high-stakes corporate dinner.
Sensing the shift, Jonathan excused himself to take a phone call and stepped outside.
Sara let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Magdalen turned to Estelle with a teasing grin. "People must seriously admire you."
Estelle dropped a cooked meatball into Magdalen's bowl, then one into her own. "What do you mean?"
"They're definitely thinking that whoever manages to be Mrs. Lamont and spend every waking moment with that man must be an absolute force of nature," Magdalen joked.
Estelle raised an eyebrow. "Honestly, Jonathan is incredibly easy to get along with in private."
Otherwise, he wouldn't have so many loyal friends.
"I guess it just depends on your circle," Magdalen said, taking a bite of her meatball. She suddenly frowned, grabbed a napkin, and spit it out before rushing toward the restroom.
Emily looked startled. "What's wrong with Magdalen?"
Estelle stood up. "Watch Kya. I'll go check on her."
Inside the restroom, Magdalen was leaning against the sink, dry-heaving and looking thoroughly miserable.
Estelle stepped out to grab a glass of water from Damian, then hurried back and handed it to her. "Are you sick?"
Magdalen took the water and rinsed her mouth. Her normally radiant complexion was noticeably pale. "The meatball tasted gamey. My stomach just turned on me out of nowhere."
Estelle frowned. "I ate one too. I didn't taste anything weird."
Her eyes suddenly lit up. "Magdalen, are you pregnant?"
Luckily, Norah and Sara were deep in conversation and completely oblivious to the exchange.
"To be honest, I really don't want to get pregnant. I love my freedom right now," Magdalen confessed. "You have no idea how stressed I was taking that test the other day."
Emily suddenly remembered something. "You haven't been secretly taking birth control, have you?"
Magdalen raised an eyebrow but stayed silent.
"I knew it!" Emily frowned. "Does Mr. Langston know?"
Magdalen scoffed. "If he knew, he would've run straight to my parents to tattle."
Estelle's voice dropped, turning serious. "If you don't want a baby, you need to be honest with Morrison. You can't keep hiding this from him."
Emily nodded in agreement. "Estelle is right. If he finds out later, he's going to be incredibly hurt."
"Relax," Magdalen assured them. "I only tracked my cycle and took it twice a few months ago. I haven't taken anything for the last two months!"
