Jenny Jordan's application for the President's Assistant position was officially rejected. The promotion went to a colleague from her own department—a woman five years her senior who had simply been at the company longer.
Jenny had worn a dark scowl all morning. By the time she sat down for lunch with Gillian York and the topic came up, she was so furious she burst into tears.
Both her parents were highly educated, and she came from a wealthy background. Growing up smart and beautiful, she had been pampered and praised her entire life.
But ever since she joined Chambers Corporation, it had been one humiliating setback after another.
She had a crush on Adrian, but he barely acknowledged her existence. Now, she had failed to land the assistant role. The sheer injustice of it made her sob.
Gillian handed her a tissue, patting her arm sympathetically. "Don't cry. Mr. Chambers rejected you because you're too new to the company. You don't have the seniority yet. It's a completely objective reason; it has nothing to do with your actual abilities. You're doing great. Just put in the time, and next time an opportunity opens up, you'll be a shoo-in."
"Opportunities to work directly for the CEO don't just pop up every year!" Jenny sobbed into the tissue, her makeup smudging. "When HR first posted the job requirements, there was absolutely no mention of seniority. They definitely added that rule just to screw me over."
Gillian lowered her voice. "Are you saying Mr. Chambers did that on purpose?"
Jenny sniffled heavily. "I bet Norah had something to do with it."
Gillian's eyes darted around. "Why do you say that?"
"She definitely noticed that I like Mr. Chambers," Jenny said, her voice dripping with venom. "She intentionally sabotaged me to keep me away from him. She's terrified I'll steal her spotlight. How can anyone be so malicious and toxic?"
Gillian sighed. "Mr. Chambers trusts her. There's nothing we can do. Plus, we both joined the company after she did. She uses her seniority to boss us around and show off."
"What does seniority even mean? By that logic, the janitor who's been here for ten years is more qualified than me!" Jenny sneered. "She acts so innocent and sweet, but I see right through her. I despise manipulative bitches like her."
Gillian looked down and sipped her iced coffee, choosing not to comment.
Jenny's resentment only burned hotter. "Just wait. I'll make her pay for this sooner or later."

As the plot thicken. Adrian is done for and he can't try to control Norah, so he'd probably tattle to Janice who's gone for two weeks. Thank you soooo much for the updates....
