The hotel staff had called the cops. When the police arrived, they assessed Mr. Larsen's injuries, took photos for evidence, and immediately had him escorted to the hospital.
"Who hit him?" an officer asked.
Sara instantly stepped forward. "I did. He tried to assault me, and I smashed a glass over his head defending myself."
She tilted her chin up, showing the officer the dark, furious bruises blooming around her throat.
Adrian grabbed her arm and pulled her securely behind his back. His expression was cold and unyielding. "I hit him."
Sara tried to interrupt, but Adrian clamped a heavy, warning hand over her arm, silently demanding she stay out of it.
The officer glanced between the two of them, then looked toward the doorway where the bloody executive had just been carted out. Getting a clear sense of the situation, his tone softened considerably. "Both of you, come with me to the station to give your statements."
It was creeping close to midnight by the time Adrian and Sara finally walked out of the precinct.
Since Mr. Larsen had violently attacked Sara first, Adrian's actions fell squarely under defense of another. Backed up by the private dining room's security footage and eyewitness statements, they were both cleared without issue.
A cool night breeze swept past them. Sara took a deep, steadying breath and turned to look at Adrian with genuine gratitude. "Thank you so much."
Adrian slung his suit jacket casually over his shoulder, offering a faint smile. "Next time we run into each other, don't pretend you don't know me. Just say hello, and we'll consider us even."
Sara scoffed. "You were the one giving me the cold shoulder."
"Are you really going to deny that you abandoned your principles the second an attractive guy entered the picture?" he countered smoothly.
Sara raised an eyebrow. "If I were really that shallow, I would have desperately set you up with Norah so I could go after Gonzalez myself. Everything I did was for her own good. If you truly cared about Norah, you'd be helping her get her memories back so she could return to Gonzalez and actually be happy."
Adrian's face darkened with anger. "That's because you have no idea what Gonzalez put her through. He was the one who pushed her away in the first place. If he thinks I'm going to help him win her back, he's out of his damn mind."
Given how late it was, Sara had zero interest in getting into a screaming match on the street. "Are you heading home?" she asked, changing the subject.
"Not really. I want to find somewhere to keep drinking," Adrian muttered, his frustration still simmering.
"Then let's go to my place," Sara offered. "I'm fully stocked."
Adrian gave her a long look before nodding in agreement.

There's a song currently playing via YouTube and TikToc by LowDii "Touch Me Softly" that makes me think of Norah and Xavier (Gonzalez). Please, I'm looking forward to updates. Thank you for your writing....

As the plot thicken. Adrian is done for and he can't try to control Norah, so he'd probably tattle to Janice who's gone for two weeks. Thank you soooo much for the updates....
