Janice glanced at Adrian, who was entirely focused on Norah, and said softly, "Adrian has practically held up the entire Chambers Corporation on his own. It's truly impressive!"
Mrs. Chambers' face showed not only pride but also a hint of heartache. "He is under a lot of pressure, but thankfully he has Norah. I'm so incredibly grateful for her. Without Norah, I can't even imagine how Adrian would handle everything by himself."
Janice smiled gently. "Our Norah used to be quite childish, but she's matured so much while working alongside Adrian. They really complement each other!"
"Exactly! That's exactly what I was going to say!" Mrs. Chambers said, her excitement evident.
Hannah chimed in from the side, a sycophantic edge to her voice as she addressed Janice. "Norah is as beautiful and well-behaved as a princess. Standing next to Adrian, they look like a perfect match!"
Her intuition told her that Norah and Gonzalez had a complicated relationship, so she eagerly hoped Norah would marry Adrian instead.
Her words struck a chord with Mrs. Chambers. "Our Adrian can't compare to Norah. If I had a daughter like her, I wouldn't even need a son!"
Hannah laughed. "Then just have Norah marry Adrian. That way, you'll get a daughter like Norah, and you won't lose your son!"
Gonzalez was sitting behind them, talking to some other guests. Hearing the women chatting, his expression gradually turned dark and somber.
"That would be wonderful!" Mrs. Chambers laughed. "But I'm afraid Mrs. Lamont wouldn't want to part with her!"
Janice also noticed Gonzalez sitting there. For some reason, she felt a twinge of pity. She didn't directly answer Mrs. Chambers, but simply smiled. "As long as it's someone Norah likes, we will support her."
"Did you hear that?" Hannah immediately laughed. "Mrs. Chambers, you'd better go officially ask for her hand soon!"
Listening to the women behind him discussing how perfect Norah and Adrian were for each other, and watching the two of them laughing together in the lounge area, Gonzalez felt a cold, bitter knot form in his chest. He stood up and walked out of the living room.
Reaching the end of the hallway, he leaned against the window, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it.
Usually, inhaling the smoke brought a slight, numbing relief. But today, it felt as though he was dragging all the air out of the room, leaving a dull ache in his chest that completely ruined his mood.
Back in the room, Norah quickly realized that Gonzalez was no longer in his seat. The hall was crowded, but she couldn't help scanning the room, looking for him.
To Norah, this kind of praise just felt sleazy.
Her expression remained indifferent. Giving a polite nod, she turned to walk away.
Travis immediately chased after her. "Could I get your WhatsApp? Don't worry, I won't bother you."
Norah declined politely. "Sorry, I don't have my phone on me."
"Then you can give me your number, and I'll add you." Travis relentlessly pursued her.
Norah was starting to lose her patience. "No, thank you!"
"Ms. Lamont, there's a private dance party tonight. I was wondering if you might be interested?" Travis wore a fawning, desperate smile.
