"Hello?"
"Gonzalez?"
Hannah Hanson took her time walking down the stairs. She picked up the dropped phone, handed it to Martha, and gave her a pointed look.
Understanding the silent command, Martha took the phone and spoke into it. "Ms. Lamont? Our Young Master is drunk."
There was a brief pause on the other end. "Alright," Norah finally said. "Please take good care of him."
"I will!" Afraid of saying too much and blowing her cover, Martha frantically hung up.
Gonzalez's dark eyes locked onto Hannah, but his gaze was already unfocused.
Hannah reached out to support him, a mask of maternal affection perfectly fixed on her face. "Gonzalez, you're drunk. Let me help you to your room."
*
"Ah!"
A piercing, hysterical scream jolted Gonzalez awake. He snapped his eyes open to bright morning light streaming into the room.
Beside him, Yvonne sat clutching the collar of her slip dress, crying tears of sheer devastation. She glared at him with pure hatred and rage.
The scream brought Hannah and a flurry of maids rushing to the room.
Everyone froze in shock at the sight before them.
As Gonzalez's consciousness slowly rebooted, he swept a cold glance over Yvonne. His expression darkened into an icy storm. He flipped the blanket back to check himself—his pants were still on, but his shirt was gone.
He sat up, leaning heavily against the headboard as a dull, throbbing pain ripped through his skull at the slightest movement.
"Mom!" Yvonne broke down into a sobbing mess.
"Yvonne!" Hannah lunged forward, throwing her arms around her daughter and hastily pulling clothes over her. Her face was deathly pale. "How did this happen?"
"I don't know!" Yvonne sobbed into her mother's chest. "He barged in the middle of the night. He was completely drunk! He hit me, knocked me out, and then..."
"I heard he was just a street thug out there. The Madam never should have let him back into the house. It's like letting a wolf into the sheep pen!"
"..."
"Shut up! Shut your mouths!" Hannah roared furiously. "Get the hell out of here!"
The chaotic chatter outside instantly fell dead silent.
"What is going on here?" Simon Hanson demanded, rushing into the room.
Hannah wailed. "Simon, Yvonne and I don't have the face to go on living!"
Simon took in the sight of Gonzalez sitting bare-chested on Yvonne's bed, then looked at his daughter's disheveled state. A loud ringing exploded in his ears. He stumbled backward, nearly collapsing to the floor, if not for the maids catching him from behind.
Enraged, Simon snatched a decorative porcelain vase from a nearby cabinet and hurled it straight at Gonzalez. Gonzalez tilted his head slightly, narrowly dodging the heavy object. He watched the unfolding farce with the calm, detached gaze of a bystander.
"You bastard, how dare you dodge!" Simon was trembling from head to toe. "Yvonne is your sister! Your own stepsister! How could you do something so vile?"
