Circe, who had been sleeping on the balcony, was startled awake. The cat padded into the living room and watched the two humans kissing with mild curiosity for a moment before flopping down to doze off again.
After the emotional rollercoaster of the day, their kiss in the dead of the night seemed to carry the weight of a thousand unspoken words.
His raw craving for her, the searing pain of his youth, and all his past hatred and bitterness found absolute salvation in her embrace.
As for Norah, she gave him everything she had to soothe him, offering him the softest, sweetest parts of her soul. From now on, she would always be right there by his side.
It felt as if they had weathered a lifetime of twists and turns. Gonzalez finally pulled back, resting his forehead against hers. "Let's make this official," he rasped.
Norah's eyes were misty and alluring, radiating a breathtaking charm. She gently bit her lower lip, remaining silent.
"Well?" The apprehension and tension in his voice were palpable.
Norah stood on her tiptoes and playfully nipped at his lips. "If we aren't officially together, then what are we doing right now?" Her voice was incredibly sweet.
Just friends comforting each other?
Gonzalez's dark eyes softened as a slow, devastating smile spread across his face. He scooped her up into his arms and carried her toward the living room.
Norah leaned against his broad shoulder, her breath ghosting over his ear. "It's really late."
"Yeah," he murmured in agreement.
"Should I head back to my place?" she asked softly.
He just tightened his hold on her, refusing to answer.
Her voice dropped to a whisper. "If you're... still feeling upset and want someone to talk to, I could... stay."
Gonzalez's breathing hitched. He lowered her onto the sofa, planting his arms on the backrest as he leaned over her.
Their eyes locked. Norah's breathing grew erratic. She didn't know if she was hoping he'd ask her to stay or tell her to go.
His large frame blocked out what little light filtered into the room, leaving her captivated by the bottomless depths of his dark gaze.
He dipped his head again, pressing a kiss to her cheek. "Of course I want you to stay," he said hoarsely. "But I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself."
