"She is," Gonzalez agreed. "For a long time, I just didn't think I deserved her."
"Don't sell yourself short," Gabriel replied evenly. "The past is the past."
Gonzalez nodded, shifting the subject. "Is everyone else here?"
"Sean had some things to tie up. He's flying in the day after tomorrow with Nightingale. Bruce and Bert are already here."
"Nightingale is coming? I haven't met the kid she adopted yet."
"Smart kid, adorable. You'll see."
Gonzalez's gaze turned somber, tinged with nostalgia. "I'd really love to visit Silver Valley again."
Gabriel tapped a long finger against the table. "Give it two years. Once things stabilize in Tripe, you and Estelle can come back."
Gonzalez gave a firm nod. "Deal."
"By the way," Gonzalez asked, "am I still your groomsman?"
"That's how Estelle set it up," Gabriel said. "When she made the list, you and Ms. Lamont weren't officially together yet. Now that you are, we can easily add her as a bridesmaid."
Gonzalez's first thought was that Norah was going to literally jump for joy.
Sure enough, when he relayed the news, she threw herself into his arms, her eyes shining with absolute thrill.
"We can actually dance together at the wedding, in front of everyone!"
Gonzalez just smiled.

After keeping Old Mr. Jarvis entertained for a while, Magdalen pulled Estelle into the back gardens as more guests began to arrive.
"Fighting with Morrison again?" Estelle asked straight away.
[Estelle, Magdalen's mood swings have been pretty intense lately. I'm too scared to say the wrong thing. Could you try talking some sense into her?]
Estelle typed back: [I'm on it.]
Across the estate, Jonathan happened to glance over and catch the familiar name on Morrison's screen. "Texting my wife?"
Morrison looked up, his expression perfectly composed. "Magdalen has been a bit emotional lately. Probably the pregnancy hormones. I asked Estelle to help smooth things over."
Jonathan paused, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Are you entirely sure that putting two pregnant women together will calm them down? What if they just amplify each other's anxiety and create a hurricane of emotions?"
Morrison was silent for a long moment. "I doubt it. Estelle is very level-headed."
Jonathan immediately shifted gears, puffing his chest out. "True. My wife is exceptionally brilliant and rational."
Morrison let out a quiet sigh. He had let his guard down and walked right into another one of Jonathan's smug husband traps.
