Marina stood up to greet her future in-laws.
Mrs. Foster smiled gently, her voice soft and melodious. "It's been a while, Marina. How have you been?"
"I've been wonderful. Thank you for asking," Marina replied respectfully.
Mrs. Foster beamed. "Those meditation beads are exquisite. Please pass my gratitude on to your mother."
"You're too kind," Marina said quickly. "My mother doesn't know much about those things. It would be a waste to let them sit in a drawer. Such a beautiful set belongs with someone who truly appreciates them."
Marina's thoughtful words brought genuine joy to Mrs. Foster. "You must have Carson bring you over to the house when you have the time."
Marina smiled warmly. "I'd love that."
They chatted for a few more minutes as other younger members of the family entered through the side doors. They all flocked to Mrs. Foster, offering their greetings with the utmost reverence.
Not a single person dared to show her less respect just because her husband kept another woman.
Almost all the younger generation had arrived, but Marina noticed Kai Foster was noticeably absent.
Annie Foster, the cheerful and incredibly sweet daughter of Carson's third uncle, dragged Marina out into the gardens to admire the view and chat.
Just as they left, Kai walked in. He greeted Mrs. Foster with practiced respect, and she returned his greeting politely, not showing a hint of animosity.
After making his rounds, Kai approached Carson, catching a glimpse of Marina's retreating figure. He offered a sly smile. "That must be my future sister-in-law, right?"
Carson smirked coolly. "It is. You're a bit late; she just stepped out."
Kai let out a quiet chuckle. "It's a shame I couldn't make it back for your engagement party. Don't worry, I'll be sure to make up for it when you two tie the knot."
He looked at Carson, a mocking glint in his eye. "Even from the back, she looks stunning. I'm envious, brother. You really scored a gorgeous fiancée."
"You should be admiring my good taste," Carson shot back effortlessly.
Kai nodded, his smile loaded with implication. "Oh, your taste has always been impeccable."
