Carson looked up, his handsome features cold and unreadable. Without warning, he lashed out, kicking Kai hard.

Taking the blow to his stomach, Kai stumbled backward, his face twisting in pain.

Carson straightened up and closed the distance between them, his eyes like ice, flashing with a terrifying, predatory gleam. "I just wanted you to know that no matter how hard you scheme, she will always choose me without a second thought!"

Kai glared at him, a dark, venomous look in his eyes.

"Since you can't seem to remember your place, I'll remind you in public. You don't have the right to touch what's mine!" Carson said coldly.

Kai let out a bitter, mocking scoff. "Did you really win? Marina told me, very clearly, that she has no feelings for you!"

Carson's gaze narrowed dangerously, and he lashed out with another kick.

Kai scrambled to dodge it, backing away quickly. "The only reason you 'won' is because you were born to Mrs. Foster. You didn't win her over yourself! If this were a fair fight, she would have chosen me."

Carson's eyes were filled with ruthless disdain. "Whether she loves me or not, she's still the one sharing my bed!"

Kai's face instantly drained of color. He gritted his teeth, staring daggers at Carson.

Carson's voice was merciless. "Your birthright guarantees you a lifetime in the shadows. Don't ever think you can touch the light."

Marina didn't sleep a wink that night. The next day, she called in sick to work, napped for a couple of hours in the afternoon, and then got up to draw.

For the next few days, she worked relentlessly, barely sleeping or eating, pushing through to finish the remaining chapters she had committed to.
