Marina had assumed her paths with Carson wouldn't cross again. She was just waiting for the right moment to call off the engagement and end things for good.

"It doesn't matter how much anyone protests," Wyndham explained frantically over the phone. "Management is willing to pay millions of dollars in penalties just to take the series offline completely."

After a nervous pause, Wyndham added cautiously, "Ashen, I asked around. The platform was recently acquired by the Foster Group. Does... does this have something to do with you?"

Marina gritted her teeth. Finally, she said, "I'll handle it."

Wyndham sounded incredibly guilty. "I know this isn't really your problem anymore, especially since you already quit. But I just can't stand to see this project destroyed. You were the only person I could turn to."

"It's fine," Marina assured him. "Even though I walked away, I still poured my blood, sweat, and tears into that story. I'm not going to let anyone ruin it."

"Don't force yourself if it's too difficult," Wyndham said.

Marina forced a light, easy tone. "I won't. It'll just take one conversation. Trust me."

Hearing her sound so confident, Wyndham let out a sigh of relief. "I knew you'd figure something out."

After hanging up, Marina forced herself to calm down for a few minutes before calling Carson. A woman answered the line, her tone perfectly professional. "Hello. Mr. Foster is currently in a meeting and cannot take calls. Would you like me to pass along a message?"

"When will his meeting be over?" Marina asked.

The woman's voice was soft and sweet. "I'm not exactly sure."
