Rhiannon Evert called Marina, asking if she was still staying at the hotel.
The excuse about the broken air conditioning was starting to wear incredibly thin. Marina had no choice but to say she had already paid for the entire month and didn't want the money to go to waste.
Rhiannon simply couldn't understand why she refused to come home. "Your Aunt Charlotte just has a sharp tongue. If you don't want to hear it, just pretend you can't. Is it really worth avoiding your own home just because of her?"
"If I stay at the house, coming back late means I have to worry about waking everyone up," Marina explained. "If I come back early, I'm forced to eat dinner with Grandma and Grandpa and listen to Aunt Charlotte's endless gossiping. Work is already exhausting enough, and I really don't want to deal with her nagging. This setup is fine for now. I'll come visit you and Dad on the weekends."
Rhiannon was quiet for a moment before voicing her concern. "But you can't just live in a hotel forever!"
"I'm already looking at apartments near the company," Marina reassured her. "Once I buy a place, I'll move straight in."
Rhiannon had no choice but to accept it. "It's getting cold out. Make sure you take care of yourself."
"Got it!"
Marina hung up the phone just as her assistant, Audrey Yu, walked into the office. "How's the apartment hunt going?" Marina asked.
Audrey replied immediately, "The owner of the one you liked suddenly decided not to sell. I'll have to start looking again."
Marina nodded. "Speed it up."
"Will do!" Audrey promised.
Two days later, Audrey found another property that perfectly matched Marina's requirements and showed her the photos.
It was a 2,300-square-foot four-bedroom apartment. The style was exactly what Marina loved, and the location was fantastic.
Audrey swiped through the pictures on her tablet, smiling. "The owner bought this place purely as an investment, so it's never been lived in."
Marina thought it looked perfect. "This is the one!"
