Just as she was about to drift back to sleep, her phone rang again. She glanced at the screen and answered, "Mom."
Rhiannon asked, "Are you up?"
Marina replied lazily, her voice a bit nasally, "Just about to get up."
Rhiannon's tone was serious. "Your grandparents brought you up last night. Everyone is very concerned about you staying in a hotel. If you don't want to live at Carson's place, you should just come home."
Marina half-closed her eyes and scoffed. "Are they concerned, or are they just unhappy about me staying in a hotel because they're afraid I'll embarrass them?"
Rhiannon paused. "It really doesn't look good for the daughter of the Evert family to be living out of a hotel. If someone with bad intentions reports it, the journalists will start making wild guesses."
Not wanting to argue, Marina said flatly, "I've already moved back to... Carson's place."
Rhiannon froze for a second, then said, pleasantly surprised, "You moved back? You're not lying to me, are you?"
Marina snapped a photo of the room and sent it to her mother.
This time, Rhiannon believed her. "That's the way. Get along with Carson and stop fighting. Some men are players before they get married, but once they settle down, they focus on their families!"
Groggy and completely tuning out the lecture, Marina offered a lazy response and hung up.
She had been hesitating about whether to stay, but the phone call arrived right on time.
Fully awake now, she got out of bed, washed up, changed her clothes, and prepared for work.
The living room was empty, and the master bedroom door was wide open. True to his word, the man was already gone.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. She went to answer it, finding a delivery driver standing outside. "Hello, breakfast ordered by Mr. Foster!"
Marina thanked him and took the food.
She ate her breakfast alone. When she went to the kitchen to grab some water, she noticed the fridge was fully stocked with an array of colorful cocktails.
She loved keeping different cocktails in the fridge. Seeing the vibrant, crystalline colors under the lights always put her in a good mood. The last time she left, she angrily took all her things with her, so these drinks must have been restocked by Carson.
He said last night that he had stopped by a few times while she was gone. It seemed he was telling the truth.
